"devastating effects on international student recruitment"

IVC enrolls over 770 international students, according to our website.

Trump promise of Muslim ban could cost the U.S. billions from international students“It is too soon to know the exact impact of this election on international student recruitment. However, policies proposed by the current president-elect, such as banning all Muslims from our country, could have devastating effects on international student recruitment,” said Marlene M. Johnson, NAFSA’s executive director and CEO.

“With approximately 15 percent of foreign students coming from Muslim-majority countries, we stand to lose the innumerable academic, cultural and foreign policy benefits that these students bring to our nation. In addition, we risk the loss of up to $4.9 billion to the U.S. economy and more than 60,000 jobs.”

With a global economy at risk, why not integrate folks into the virtues of what a quasi democracy offers. Studying here or working here are two excellent ways to reduce the extremes in our world in modest ways over the decades. And we should have students abroad as well.

Has the college reached out to the students here who will affected by these policies?

If we haven't reached out, we certainly should. At both colleges.

Should a group of folks from all OC CCs confer about how we will "welcome," retain, and encourages overseas students and applicants that we are here for them?

Oh gee. I don't suppose we can raise the cost of the ASB sticker to compensate.

Yes. In an effort to mitigate the coming problem, IVC Outreach certainly should physically send the administrators, and perhaps some of our faculty (e.g., Philosophy instructors), to reach out for student recruitment in locations such as Syria, Iraq, Somalia, etc.

We need to establish student cry rooms, staff them, provide campus police so no one gets hurt, and create a new high paying administrative position to oversee it. Let's all welcome our new TARD Director, charged with serving the needs of students who suffer from the Trump Acceptance Rejection Disorder (TARD).
