Trustee Fuentes endorses Poizner

Above, we find former OC GOP chief Tom Fuentes, at this weekend's Western CPAC event, endorsing gubernatorial candidate Steve Poizner. Poizner's chief competition (for the Republican ticket) is former eBay CEO Meg Whitman, a moderate.

The Red County Blog's Matt Cunningham discusses the significance of Tom Fuentes' endorsement:
That's a pretty major endorsement for Poizner. Tom Fuentes is a living institution of OC conservatism who's contacts and relationships within the OC Republican community run wide and deep. Gaining his imprimatur helps Poizner in his quest to position himself as a conservative.
Of course, Cunningham would say that.

Lots of boos, lots of fun

Last night, Red County Blog’s Allan Bartlett posted again about filmmaker John Ziegler’s squabble with American Conservative Union President David Keene (You Tube Of The Western CPAC Ziegler Confrontation With David Keene) at the Newport Beach Radisson, which is hosting the Western CPAC.

Included in the video above are remarks by CPAC organizer Jim Lacy, which are interrupted by Ziegler, who somehow manages to grab a live mike. Lots of boos, lots of fun.

I checked out the agenda for Friday and Saturday’s CPAC meeting. And guess what! The first event of the conference (5:00 p.m., Friday) was a “birthday reception” for our own Tom Fuentes! Live music was provided by Esteban Cerutti. There were “complimentary cigars.”

And the session in which Ziegler was supposed to participate? (“The Rule of Nebulous Law,” 2:30 p.m., Saturday.) Ziegler was to share the dais with our own Don Wagner, who is listed as “founder and past president, OC Federalist Society.”
