1967: Original five trustees all on one Republican slate

This is kind of special. Just wanted to remind everybody. The original five trustees of our college district—the "South Coast Junior College District"—were, during the election, all on one "Republican" slate. ("Nothing to do with the Cal Repub Assembly!" they protested.)
One might suggest that, at the beginning, the Republican Party pretty much owned the district. Ran it, anyway. Did lots of very Republican things that stood out.
The article below is from the Times, Feb. 16, 1967:

Trustee Brannon was a notorious bookie.
Of course, they named the first college structure after GOP Congressman Utt. Utt the right-wing-Nut.
They forbade long hair on boys.
They made everybody salute the flag.
Plans for the new library are halted: we forgot to design it as a fortress (against students)!
