Meanwhile, Back at the Copy Machine...
Reporters in the field noted that the copy machines in the A-100 and A-200 buildings were once again empty yesterday afternoon. No reports were recieved from the B-200 building though some faculty and staff were seen trudging off in that general direction.
This reporter reminds all readers that love and appreciation for the "copy guy" has been duly registered on this blog and that this post does not in any way signal a lack of love and appreciation for the "copy guy."
Get your copies done early folks!

What is up with the staffing in the duplicating center?
Are they just between employees right now? Do they hope to hire in the near future? Is this a permanent cutback in staffing?
By the way, I too, love the copy guy. I just wish the admin did too and provided proper funding and staffing.
I love the copy guy - and I love the copy machines too.
Did we ever discover who has the keys after hours?
This is just one part of a larger issue: the colleges do not function properly. Yes, I know this is not news to anyone. But I do need to ask WHY.
We can't blame everything on Raghu. Yes, we hate him and want him to go. But he is not the cause for all of the ills on our campuses.
Expectations are so low. So many people act like ***holes.
I don't understand it. For the most part, we have good jobs. We get frequent raises. We get free health care that is very good. We get a lot of time for vacation. Comparatively, our salaries are very good. Spend some time in another job and you know this is all true -- we have a good deal.
So why are so many people on campus so unprofessional so much of the time? I'm not talking about one group of employees in particular -- it's pervasive. There are union members, administrators, managers, and faculty who are all utterly unprofessional on a regular basis, when it comes to attitude and job performance.
The copy machines should be operable at night. People who call the college should be able to get help and not be transferred 10 times before someone can help them.
Employees should be professional toward one another. But they're not. We have many faculty members who are downright rude to other college employees. We have union employees who work the system so they can get overtime and still do shitty work. We have a president who doesn't care that people treat one another badly. We have secretaries with way too much control over college operations.
Why aren't there greater expectations on college employees? Why is this shit allowed???
I realize I'm whining -- but seriously, what is wrong with everyone?
here's my whine:
I called the operator from my classroom one day to report a lack of air conditioning (one of those HOT HOT HOT days a few weeks back). The room was pretty much insufferable.
I know I should have called maintenance and facilities directly but I didn't have their number with me (it's at my
office).
Later, I realized that I should have turned on the computer and contacted maintence and facilities that way, but I didn't think of that at the time (maybe I was too hot?)
So I just picked up the phone and dialed "0."
A recording picked up advising me to wait, so, I put the phone of speakerphone (low volume) and went back to my lecture.
15 minutes later (you know how those fancy phones tell you how long you've been online) I gave up.
No one ever picked up the line. This was midday day prime time - not early morning or evening.
You should have seen my students' reactions.
By the way, I LOVE the copy guy. He is a professional.
Yes, the college does not function properly.
STOP COMPLAINING!
When I started using Blackboard in my courses, I virtually stopped going to the copy center.
I miss the copy guy.
But I ain't goin' back there.
Still, even if some people use BLACKBOARD, the others should be able to have the choice to use hard copies. I cannot post some material on BLACKBOARD for numerous reasons. I need the copy machine to do my job.
(I too LOVE the copy guy. Sometimes I even drop by to say hello without dropping off anything to copy.)
Gosh, Rebel Girl, you've hit a sensitive spot once again. You should be a dentist.
10:37--Stop complaining? You must be a Bush Republican. I'm surprised you read this blog, what with its interest in facts and responsibility.
I don't mind when people complain, but I do think they should get their facts straight, which can be hard around here when the Chancellor dispenses lies and distortions (e.g., that our 50% problem concerns reassigned time) at the drop of a hat.
And people should avail themselves of the countervailing power, insofar as it exists. We have one of the best senates in the state. Maybe the best.
Get thee to the senate!
Maybe they won't be able to make enough copies of their bad faith accreditation report...
How long does it take for the college operator to pick up the line during regular operating hours?
This is not a joke.
You guys just need to find the secret locations of the private copying machines...Maybe DISSENT can publish a map.
too many chiefs not enough indians
The part time position in the Copy Center is on hold, it has not been approved by the top guys. Evidently it is not a critical position.
Yesterday our "loveable" copy guy was out for the day, no one was there to fill up the empty copiers in A100 and A200. Administration evidently doesn't think your copy needs are important.
Wait until the copy guy goes on a two week vacation.....
How is it that any post about the frigging copy center illicits shitloads of comments? What's up with that?
The copy machine is the center of the universe. The copy guy is god.
They put the funding for the part-time position on hold?
Great, just great.
Raghu has a private copy machine that he keeps in his glove compartment and a personal assistant to press the copy button who he stores in his trunk.
Glenn, on the other hand, has a private copy machine in the secret wing of the B-300 building that is accessed by the door disguised as a bookcase.
He has a paper stash there and god knows what else.
Wasn't someone going to bring us a ditto machine to sniff?
I, too, love the copy guy.
ATEP = Another Tremendously Expensive Project
Does ATEP have a copy machine too?
