SOCCCD Faculty Union forcefully defends DACA students

Enjoy the vigorous verbs such as "denounces" and "applaud" used in the SOCCCD Faculty Association statement on DACA.  Rebel Gilr dure did.  The statement landed in email boxes across the distinct this morning. Sources say that it was approved unanimously without revision or objection, although one member expressed the wish to add the word “asshole” just before each appearance of the T word.

Where are the two Academic Senates an the DACA issue? Our 10 plus 1 allows them to speak in defense of students. Why are they mute so far?

Why are you not upset that it took so long?

While it might seem that the union took "so long," the union voted on this resolution the first time the rep council met after the change in policy was announced. They have monthly meetings and the union leadership does not take unilateral action.

The IVC senate composed a letter that was sent to all students last week and it is posted on the newly revamped college website.

Not sure what Saddleback is up to.

The people taking their time, dragging their feet are the people with the power to act quickly - the leadership at the college level. They had to be pushed. Don't tell me they couldn't respond as quickly as other schools did. They didn't want to. The same laws of physics apply in Irvine as elsewhere.

because nobody truly gives a shit here anymore!

Has anyone noticed that the district seems to be poaching administrators from Coast CCD? Kim McCord, followed by payroll's Rosie Aguilar, internal auditor Richard something-or-other, and now the new VC of human resources. Why don't we hire from outside and get some new ideas in here? The district needs a new direction. These administrators just go from one CCD to the next. Maybe the goal is to be Coast CCD.

What is up with that? Or is it just the nepotism conduit where pals help each other out?

Nepotism and collusion?

6:34 All those administrators you mentioned are good, so why not?

6:58 - I wasn't saying they're not good administrators. I don't know the payroll director, but I have heard nothing but great things about Kim McCord. I'm just saying that we've seen enough of this type of cronyism/nepotism here on our own campus. SOCCCD needs innovative thinkers and problem-solvers to move it forward. Debra Fitzsimons seems to be just that, and she came from outside the system. I would just like to see more of that instead of administrators recycled from one community college district to the next.
