New trustee chosen: Whitt

A reliable source just phoned and informed me that Terri Whitt (a professor of nursing) has been chosen to replace Nancy Padberg on the South Orange County Community College District Board of Trustees. Padberg recently retired from the board.

Hi, I'm writing to tell you what workers in the F&M department have share with me. There was a worker who was let go because he was Gay. This person went to the District and complaint about it and nothing was done because he was not a full time worker in the custodial department, he was what they called a sub- custodian. The custodians were told not to say anything, maybe you can investigate it....

She's Facebook friends with the Chancellor, Poertner and many of the trustees including Nancy. That's nice.

9:02 - perhaps you can contact the classified union folks and/or reach out to sympathetic admin, staff and faculty on your campus. Which campus is this? IVC or Saddleback?

Is she on teaching staff at Saddleback?

She's retired.

Now we have 2 from Saddleback on the board...great!

Both of whom are NOT parochial. They have a larger vision that centers on students, not locations.

Go and talk to them if you have concerns. They are open, receptive. And I've taught at both colleges.

That's good news for everyone.

Yes. There was an issue about a gay person and leadership in F&M and the treatment of this employee.

Well, then something must be done.

Isn't there a faculty or staff person who was appointed as the GBLT liaison at IVC? (Did this happen at IVC? or Saddleback?)
