Just trying to wrap my mind around the phrase "exceptionally close ties to President Gerald R. Ford." Maybe they wore ties? Maybe they once wore ties which were close in color or style?

I dunno, maybe Ford had no friends but Tony was an exception, owing to that great remark of his about Bob Hope and the "black hole in the universe," which seems a fine companion to some of Ford's most memorable blatherings.
