And we thought our students were knuckleheads! Red Emma grades Congressman Campbell’s letter (Red Emma)

From Navel Gazing:

In Which A Teacher Writes Back to His Congressman, Gently Correcting His Writing and Thinking Errors
"In my humble opinion, the real problem here is that there is something societal going on. ... [S]ocietal norms which in the past would have restrained such an extreme level of reactive behavior seem to no longer exist."
–Rep. John Campbell
A reader detected yet another typo on the IVC webpage; see the last word
UPDATE: Today (3/4), I noticed that the typo was fixed.

I wish someone would fix that typo that has been on the IVC webpage for months. I know I can't be the only one who has noticed it. It goes with the photo of all the ribbons at commencement and is attributed to Kathlynn Ly: "opporunities" instead of "opportunities." The first "t" is missing. There are other mistakes, but that one is the worst.

dear anonymous Editor, As recent events suggest, if you put it on the blog, it does get fixed. Let's see what happens. Good luck to you in your proofreading efforts.

What I find fascinating about the dynamic on the blog is this: clearly people care, see things (big and little) that need to be addressed - but have little faith in the processes the institutions has created -and more than a little fear that if they say something about something big (not a typo) - BOOM - they're going to get it and get it hard - and/or they will be ignored. Sort of what happened with the tenure fiasco. people tried to communicate to the powers that be - but they didn't listen. Now they're pissed off because they look bad - but hey, we tried. And will they ever say anything? Admit anything? Apologize? Nope.
