"Sex Assault"

Student arrested in sex assault at Irvine Valley College (OC Reg)

A 21-year-old student has been arrested on suspicion of sexually assaulting a woman in the parking lot of Irvine Valley College, authorities said.
He was taken into custody Friday, partly because authorities at the school had contacted him in the past after he was reported to be acting suspiciously and touching female students, said Cmdr. Barry Aninag of the Irvine Police Department.
The assault occurred Thursday night, Aninag said.
The 18-year-old woman had met Alireza Hashemi that day on campus, but did not know him before, Aninag said.
The two were having a conversation, Aninag said, when Hashemi forced the woman into the back seat of his vehicle.
"She was able to escape from his control," Aninag said.
The woman ran away and reported the attack to police, he said.
The woman's description matched that of Hashemi, who had been stopped by authorities before when women on campus had been touched inappropriately, Aninag said.
No arrest was made in those incidents, he said.
Hashemi was being held at Men's Central Jail on suspicion of sexual assault.

I am curious about this part of the story: He was taken into custody Friday, partly because authorities at the school had contacted him in the past after he was reported to be acting suspiciously and touching female students" - what does it mean that "authorities at the school" had "contacted him in the past" about "touching female students"?

Certainly if you "touch" female students you should be more than "contacted" ?!

Is this one of those incident reports that goes nowhere?

it goes nowhere if victims refuse to press charges and it's a misdemeanor

Pressing charges is beyond the scope of the college. I think 6:58 is curious as to what role the college administration played in response to, apparently, complaints about "inappropriate touching."

There seems to be a history here that is known to some but yet here the guy is on campus.

Wouldn't a student be suspended at the very least for "inappropriate touching"???? or do you just get a warning? What is the policy and who enforces it. I find this disturbing.

I noticed that too - a known history of "touching female students" - I wonder what the college did and when they did it. How responsive and responsible was the college administrator in charge of responding to this kind of behavior? How can a student who has a history in inappropriately touching female students still be enrolled on campus? Isn't that a danger to those uninformed female students?

Or uninformed young female teachers say who have him in a night class?

If I were his victim, I'd want to know what the college knew, when they knew it and what they did- or did not do.

It's simple, the college knew nothing. The campus police knew nothing. The fool runnning around campus only brought attention to himself after he felt successful with his prior follies. His behavior, as sick as it is, was just another day in the candy store. Cut his balls off and hand them back to him in a paper bag.

I like your solution, 6:46.

I believe the college did know something - that's why they picked him up. But what was the reaction by the VP or whoever is in charge to the previous incidents?

So we can't test for testosterone levels, and we can't arrest for stiff woodies. So can we feed him to the lab rats?

It is, I think, fair to ask what administration knew about this kid and when they knew it, but it is not fair to assume that they behaved badly in this instance. If readers have information about this student's past acts and how they were dealt with, they should enlighten us--but not with mere rumors and speculation.

From the OC Register:

He was taken into custody Friday, partly because authorities at the school had contacted him in the past after he was reported to be acting suspiciously and touching female students, said Cmdr. Barry Aninag of the Irvine Police Department.

I think the college needs to explain what has been done in the past regarding this man and his behavior. Isn't this the bailiwick of Liz Supress?

Supress, very funny.

These are good questions/concerns to be addressed in the upcoming forum - when is it? (I know, i know, probably when I am teaching.) Perhaps they'll send out a report about it. I would like to know what they knew about this fellow and how they addressed the previous incidents.
