Assault on Campus

IVC faculty and staff received this email notice at 10:22 this morning:
Notification of IVC Sexual Assault
Irvine Police are investigating a report from a female Irvine Valley College (IVC) student who said she was sexually assaulted in a vehicle in the IVC campus Parking Lot 4 Thursday evening, October 11 at 6 p.m.
This incident is a reminder for all students, faculty and staff to beware of any suspicious behavior and report anything you witness that seems out of the ordinary. The IVC Escort Service is available to all members of the community, 24 hours a day, seven days a week to accompany you from your classroom/office to your car or other campus locations. The 24-hour number for IVC Campus Police is 949-451-5234.

Note: Lot 4 is the big lot that is bordered by A-300 on the campus side and, on the other side, the dirt lot where the Goodwill collection truck is located and, seasonally, the pumpkin patch and Christmas tree lot.

How awful. I often think the outer reaches of the parking lots at night are pretty sketchy, especially just, say 15 minutes after 10. Amazing how quickly deserted the place can get. And dark. (Do we have signs posted in the lots with the campus police number?) But this assault happened when it was still light and in, no doubt, a lot with other vehicles and students around. How awful.

FYI - Rebel Girl removed a comment that attacked the woman who reported the crime (Reb has NO TOLERANCE for that kind of thing) - as well as the IVC police department. The same commentator then posted off topic on another post - so she took that down too. Behave yourself.

You people are such liars. I saw that post and it was not attacking the victim. It was just not PC by your standards.

I will err on the side on protecting the woman making the complaint.

I am glad Rebel Girl took the comment down. I thought it was in poor taste.

I saw that post too. This is not about PC or not PC. It was inappropriate. I suggest if the poster and his supporters (and yeah, sure, my money is that it's a male) thinks his comment is appropriate that he should repeat it to the young woman's father and the IVC police. Go for it fella. Come on. You're a big anonymous guy with a big anonymous mouth. Go for it. Put your name where your mouth is. Stand up for your views.

He's the same troll you've had around here for awhile isn't he?

Yeah, a few days ago, that right-wing troll insisted on offering a loutish attack on Obama in connection with his debate--something we had not commented on--and I deleted that. He responded by calling me a "pussy" and worse.

Sounds like Gensler, Roy.

The victim is never responsible for the assailant's actions. Well done, Reb!

I see the troll did not return to unmask himself and speak to the father or the police.
