Corrupt and stupid people

Mike Carona with friend Dave "Quisling" Lang
     • Three hours ago, Matt Coker posted an update on Irvine Valley College “Hometown Hero,” Mike Carona’s, transition to prison life:
"America's Sheriff" turned himself in at the Federal Correctional Institution Englewood in Littleton, Colorado, today to start serving his 5-and-a-half-year sentence, according to Victoria Joseph, a Federal Bureau of Prisons spokeswoman.
     • Meanwhile, the Tea Party’s Michelle Bachmann revealed yet again that she does not know her ass from a hole in the ground. Here, we find her asserting that “The ... founders ... worked tirelessly until slavery was no more in the United States.” Huh?

They should have taken that photo down when Carona was convicted. What were they waiting for? For him to win on appeal or something?

Does the Carona scholarhsip still exist? Someone should ask Al Tello.

They STILL have that photo up - or is it just YOUR cached copy?

I can't believe they haven't taken it down yet.

I asked Al Tello...he said "HUH?"

What's the deal with our involvement with the Sheriff's Department and the Police? what have they got to do with IVC? It used to be Carona attending campus events, now it is Sheriff Hutchins and Irvine Chief Maggard. Don't we have our own police force, or is it that after the Carona fiasco, Hutchins and Maggard are keeping an eye on our campus to look out for criminal activity.

I agree with 9:13...get these political police off campus!

I see that the college has just taken that "Carona scholarship" site down. Once again, you're doing their work for them.

That was quick! Nice work Dissent the blog! who says they don't read you?

In my view, the Carona Scholarship and the "Hometown Hero" business are utterly different. I have no objection to Carona setting up some money to help students. It is an admirable act. That our college would give that man an award, however, is embarrassing. (By 2003, when the honor was bestowed, the OC Weekly had made a powerful case that Carona was corrupt. The OC "establishment" simply ignored the facts, thinking that Carona's issues would never lead to an indictment. They knew what he was about and didn't care.)

They really thought he was going to get off, win on appeal, strings would be pulled, someone would turn a favor, etc - all of them did including Carona until the very end.

I think all the photos and press releases should stay where they are - and people should have to own up to their mistakes on the public record. When it all disappears, well, there's a problem with that. Especially when it disappears so silently. No admission of shame, guilt, misplaced trust. etc.

Interesting point, 6:44. I like it. Keep history whole. Own up to it.

It'll never happen here, though.

I like cause and effect. It's very satisfying.

Hi BvT, I believe the scholarship was named to honor Carona, I don't believe he contributed any money.

8:38 - ARE YOU KIDDING? Please say yes. The college didn't just name a scholarship to honor Carona - without him contributing a red cent?!?

No. Really? Come on.

Does it ALWAYS have to be worse than I thought?

Anonymous said...

Yes.

It always must be worse than you thought.

Where have you been?

They named a scholarship after him and he didn't give any money to it? Where'd the money come from? Whose bright idea was it? Are the minutes of the Foundation meetings open to the public? Can we find out?

SO, Carona didn't GIVE the college or the students ANYTHING. As usual, he just TOOK - set up by his pals to make them anr him look good. Gawd almighty.

He used us.

They are scrubbing the college website at this very moment. But the reason they didn't do it before was because they really did think he'd be exonerated.
