Go to college, kids!

UC president touts college to Anaheim students (OC Register)
“[UC President Mark] Yudof encouraged students during an assembly to complete college prep coursework so they could pursue a path to a UC, California State and other college or university.”
—Wait a minute. The UCs, the CSUs, and the community colleges are turning away students in droves. There’s no room for them.
I don’t get it. Who is this Yudof anyway? Some kind of performance artist? A comedian?

This asshole makes some huge 6 figure salaray and also gets a massive stipend for living expenses.

Here's from an interview with the NYT:

"When you began your job last year, your annual compensation was reportedly $828,000."

--It actually was $600,000 until I cut my pay by $60,000. So my salary is $540,000, but it gets amplified because people say, “You have a pension plan.”

"What about your housing allowance? How much is the rent on your home in Oakland?"

--It’s about $10,000 a month.

"Does U.C. pay for that on top of your salary?"

--Yes, and the reason they do that is because they have a president’s house, it needed $8 million of repairs and I decided that was not the way to go. Why the heck would I ever authorize $8 million for a house I didn’t want to live in anyhow?

Are any kids actually motivated by this guy? Do high school kids change their mind about college when this guy shows up and says "Go to college!"?

Biggest factors for me were at home. My dad would tell me, "Don't go to college."

So naturally, I went to college.

Good one, BS. You've still got it!

And yet--and yet.... It IS good that kids learn to (?) want to go to college, isn't it? I see the problem, and Yudof should warn the kids of the actual f'ed up situation re college these days. Yet----I WANT them to want to go to college, and try their best to do so (for the right reasons, of course; who knows what Yudof implied about what those are).
