Orange Juice Blog goes after John Williams

This morning, Vern Nelson of the popular Orange Juice Blog posted a blistering attack on trustee/Public Administrator/Gardian John Williams:

Worst. Public Administrator. Ever. - Vote OUT John Williams!
For eight years now, the office of “Public Administrator – Public Guardian” been helmed by John Williams, who just might be Orange County’s worst “public servant” since Mike Carona was shown the prison door. Comfy as a bug in a rug in the OC’s corrupt, incestuous political machine, there’s severe danger this oft-investigated teflon Don will continue his reign of waste and incompetence another four years if he squeaks through the elections this year. Please, Republicans, independents and Democrats,before you check off, or speed past, that part of your ballot, you really need to hear about:
• Williams’ lavish waste of taxpayer money building a top-heavy agency stuffed with cronies in unneeded six-figure “management” positions;
• the numerous citizens’ estates left languishing for years due to overworked demoralized staff, till they were eaten away by PA fees;
• the TWO scathing grand jury reports on his tenure, which have had no effect on this well-protected machine politico;
• this six-figure-salaried administrator’s latest double-dipping scandal;
• more and sundry malfeasance; and
• his TWO worthy challengers, and why it’s not a problem that there are two.

(Continued)
Pretty scathing. Read on. It only gets, um, scathinger.

Good. Glad people are beginning to notice the scandal.

When do you think his fellow trustees will notice?

I know, NEVER.

I hear he's a no-show for commencement. Off to Orlando again.

Really? Orlando - again? Is this being paid for by the SOCCCD? You would think 3 times a year would be enough for him. Vote the bum out!

John works hard on all these trips doing important business for the district that no one else can do.

Have you ever spoken with the guy? He's not bright. What is this important business of which you speak? Visiting the Republican Ladies' Club? Talking about football? What it's like to be a bailiff?

John Williams has been elected to public offices many times over. He has earned the publics' trust and respect.

So easy to criticize selfless people who try to serve the public good. shame on you.

What kind of "selfless" person spends $700 or $800 dollars a night (of taxpayers' money) at a luxury hotel? We're talking about totally unnecessary trips to Florida! The same information is available on this coast! And how do you explain the timesheet discrepancies? Why has Williams said absolutely nothing to explain them?

John doesn't choose those hotels or their prices - it's all set up in advance by the people who put together the conferences.

You can't blame him for that. He's trying to do important business and the college district asks him to do that by sending him there. It's all approved.

Josh, you are right. He is not very bright. That's why he doubled the salaries of his top management to cover his ass! They need to go too!

You ignore most of my points, you cherry picker you. To see some itemization of John's expenses, go to Travelin' Man. Click on the graphic of the district record of trustee travel expenses. There, you'll see that Williams spent $150 on meals and $309 on a car rental when he stayed in Orlando. If he's at the conference, why does he need a car? Why should the taxpayer pay for it? (Well, his brother lives in Orlando.) For a trip to San Francisco, he spent $150 on meals and $309 on a car rental--plus $221 for parking for said car. Is he somehow compelled to have a car? Shouldn't he stay at the conference? And, again, how do you explain those timesheet discrepancies? Finally, if you knew anything about our board, you'd know that each trustee routinely approves any expenses for the other trustees, even when they're against those expenses. It's an unwritten rule, evidently. (See the record of payment of absent trustees; they are always unanimously approved; there is never a discussion.) So, that these expenses are "approved" means absolutely nothing.

I like how John's shit-eating smile seems to be eating the words "LIFE" in your logo today.

Dont be fooled! I am sure John picks out his own hotels, then puts in a bill for reimbursement. If he stayed at the hotel where the conference was, then why does he need a rental car - which he gets every conference. The hotels usually have shuttles to and from the airport. To call him a conservative is a joke! This is proved year after year after year.

Seriously? Orlando again?!

Natalie, yes, again. With a smirk. Williams is one of the smirkiest guys you'll ever see.
