Earl Warren? Wasn't he the inspiration for that old song, "Duke of Earl"?
Chunk,
The tycoon must have donated alot of money! I have seen this building, I am insulted that they would tear it down!!

Who is the High Schhol drop out?

Warren Hall is an architectural eyesore. I'm glad they're taking it down. But they should replace it with a parking ramp for all the Prius' up there. No one bikes anymore.
Cal Grad
Those who desire the poop on the new building and its tycoon benefactor, go to Poop.
P.S.: even if Warren Hall were an eyesore, why would they treat the memory of Earl Warren so shabbily? The least they can do is put his name on something else!
The REB alludes to Warren's importance as a Supreme Court Chief Justice--he was crucial to civil rights. He was also governor of CA when the Japanese were imprisoned. He regretted signing the order.
Dear Cal Grad:
That I cannot find a single picture of Warren Hall is beginning to convince me that it is among the ugliest buildings on the planet.
Is it really that ugly?
Timing is everything. If the Brown decision had occurred a year earlier or later, Warren's edifice might've looked great. It's a good thing they weren't dedicating a parking lot then. Or a new sewer facility.
Still, it's a shame to see this de facto monument to civil rights torn down and replaced by a de facto monument to someone's making an indecent amount of money.
Chunk
I agree with you.

Gosh, Reb's dispatches are getting wordy. At this rate, the next one will be an entire paragraph!
Good observations, though.
I never thought I'd see the day when Cal started churning out bio, IT, and business grads in such volume as to change the architectural landscape of the University. We used to joke about those schools floating the Letters and Science colleges that made Cal the distinguished University it once was. It's no joke now.

A high school dropout who becomes a tycoon= a slackoon.
