Joan Heuter, SCCD trustee

I remember Joan Heuter as a very kind and decent person. She did what she could when the bastards took over the district late in '96. She was a member of what we called the "Board Minority." But the Majority was ruthless, so she became an observer of disaster and misdeed. But we were glad to have her in our corner anyway.
I came across this old article (from 1986, about a month or two after I was hired at IVC) about Joan's medical battle. Thought I'd post it.
Some context: the district had gone through 2 or 3 years of turmoil with Chancellor Larry Stevens, who, after some changes to the board, was persuaded to resign in January of '86. The excellent Richard Sneed had just been hired to replace Stevens (he started in July).
    I remember Joan fondly.
