IVC Acting Prez: campus closure update (staff)

Campus Closure: Update to Staff
IVC Family:
The well-being of the IVC community is always the highest priority of our college and district. Last evening, the Public Health Officer of the Orange County Health Care Agency announced an order to close all non-essential businesses and functions throughout Orange County through March 31, 2020. Late yesterday, you should have received an email regarding the County Public Health Order from our Chancellor Dr. Kathleen Burke outlining how our district, IVC, and Saddleback will respond to this new request for cooperation in regards to the COVID-19 outbreak. [I didn't receive that email.]
I know many of you are still processing what this means for you, your colleagues and your students. Effective at 5 pm today, no students will be on our campus. In addition, all employees should be moved to working from home no later than 5 pm today, March 18th. If you are a classified professional, your manager will be explaining to you further details about your status and work expectation requirements from now through March 31st.
At 9 am this morning, I am meeting with my managers and deans to plan the next steps of action for the coming days. We are working to plan, as much as we can plan, in these uncertain times. Our response team has already been planning how we would accomplish many of the items that we are implementing.
We are asking that the only employees left on campus after today, are those who are needed to maintain campus safety and facilities or whose jobs require them to be present. We have identified these colleagues as “mission-critical” and they are vital to our campus operation. We thank them in advance for their service on behalf of all of us. The rest of us, including many of our faculty, will be learning how to teach, meet, support, collaborate, coach, manage, mentor, advise and communicate remotely.
I know that many of you are worried about learning new skills, new technologies and new ways of doing things; but we will. We are going to do what our students do every day—learn, acquire new skills, innovate and create.
I know that I am asking a lot of you during the next 24 hours so thank you! Here at IVC…we are a TEAM. We have never needed one another more than we need each other right now. So please continue sharing resources and supporting one another remotely. The most important thing is your health and safety. We appreciate your collaboration and assistance to do this work on behalf of our students.
Thank you and BE WELL.

OC ban on gatherings

OC to Ban All Public and Private Gatherings Under Emergency Health Order
(Voice of OC)
All public and private gatherings in Orange County will be prohibited under an emergency health order county officials said they plan to issue later Tuesday to slow the spread of coronavirus.
Bars and in-person dining at restaurants also are soon expected close to customers until further notice, starting at a time that has not yet been announced. It appeared that take-out and delivery of food would be allowed to continue, and officials emphasized that grocery stores will continue to remain open as the virus spreads, because food is essential for the public.
The move is modeled on moves by seven Bay Area counties, whose orders went into effect at midnight after they were issued….

The dramatic move to limit contact between people is intended to dramatically limit the spread of coronavirus, which health experts have warned could kill up to 2 million Americans if measures such as social distancing are not put into effect.
The order is slated to be issued later on Tuesday by Dr. Nichole Quick, the county’s health officer, who has support from top county officials in issuing the order.

Several county supervisors, such as Supervisor Don Wagner, publicly questioned Tuesday morning whether Quick should issue such a health order, pointing to the concerns it will generate.
Wagner questioned Gov. Gavin Newsom’s recent direction, criticizing the state capital saying, “they make it up as they go along in Sacramento.”
Richard Sanchez, director of the Orange County’s public health agency, responded by emphasizing health officials know that key action now is essential to limiting community spread of the virus.

DIRTY TRICKS: It's Dandy Don Wagner and his Developer Friends!

Court: Dirtiest Election Trick In Decades By Developers In OC Supervisors Race Should Change Rules For Future Candidates
Voice of OC
Just days before the election mailers arrived exposing the candidate’s crimes. She protected rapists, not women. She wrote a letter about a judge to reduce the sentence for a 3 year old’s rapist. Only, none of it was true.
The candidate –Orange County Board of Supervisor’s challenger Ashleigh Aitken — is in fact a girl scout leader, mother, and former federal prosecutor of sexual predators.
The mailer, which disclosed its funding source only as “Californians for A Growing Economy and Safe Streets,”(CFGESS) was in fact funded by real estate developers with an interest in Orange County. They supported the incumbent Republican Orange County Supervisor Don Wagner, who has repeatedly sided with developers in local control matters…. Continue reading
The propaganda in question

OC Supervisors candidate Ashleigh Aitken demands apology for mailer
OC Reg
Orange County Board of Supervisors Third District candidate Ashleigh Aitken said on Tuesday, Jan. 25, her campaign has sent a cease-and-desist letter to her opponent, Supervisor Don Wagner, demanding he renounce a mailer she says falsely accuses her of supporting an Orange County Superior Court judge who reduced the sentence of a man who sexually assaulted a 3-year-old relative….
