OC ban on gatherings

OC to Ban All Public and Private Gatherings Under Emergency Health Order
(Voice of OC)
All public and private gatherings in Orange County will be prohibited under an emergency health order county officials said they plan to issue later Tuesday to slow the spread of coronavirus.
Bars and in-person dining at restaurants also are soon expected close to customers until further notice, starting at a time that has not yet been announced. It appeared that take-out and delivery of food would be allowed to continue, and officials emphasized that grocery stores will continue to remain open as the virus spreads, because food is essential for the public.
The move is modeled on moves by seven Bay Area counties, whose orders went into effect at midnight after they were issued….

The dramatic move to limit contact between people is intended to dramatically limit the spread of coronavirus, which health experts have warned could kill up to 2 million Americans if measures such as social distancing are not put into effect.
The order is slated to be issued later on Tuesday by Dr. Nichole Quick, the county’s health officer, who has support from top county officials in issuing the order.

Several county supervisors, such as Supervisor Don Wagner, publicly questioned Tuesday morning whether Quick should issue such a health order, pointing to the concerns it will generate.
Wagner questioned Gov. Gavin Newsom’s recent direction, criticizing the state capital saying, “they make it up as they go along in Sacramento.”
Richard Sanchez, director of the Orange County’s public health agency, responded by emphasizing health officials know that key action now is essential to limiting community spread of the virus.

Yet our administrators still insist on packing classified staff into offices all week, many still working with students face to face. It is disheartening that they believe this is all some sort of ploy for a free vacation. We Love helping students. That’s why sought these jobs, but like our students and faculty, we don’t want to contract and spread this virus.

Is the chancellor a Fox News devotee? It seems like it. Surprising. Or is it both Redhedz in the district?

Amazing how they are all for a 10/40 that benefits mainly themselves and are able to implement it without a hitch. But allowing employees - classified staff no less - to stay home during a pandemic? We’re told to eat cake.

Boo. Hiss.

The district just announced a new policy in line with the county's directive. While there has been stumbles here (some serious yes) I can only imagine the previous leadership doing much, much worse. We are where we've never been folks and sometime it take awhile to see that. Just imagine what DON WAGNER as president of the board would have us doing? When admin stumbles (as they did) that the time when the union (CSEA) should speak up and right them - I think they did just that. I wonder if the people complaining are active members of the classified union? I am giving this new leadership the benefit of the doubt only because people seem to have forgotten - how quickly! - how unstable and short-sighted the previous team was.

These people are adjusting to an ever-changing situation. So are we all.

Good luck everybody. Hope to see you at the end of this. Roy, thanks for the blog. Keep us together here when you can.
