…[T]he estimated cycle rate of an earthquake the size of the 1994 Northridge 6.7 magnitude shaker striking somewhere in the state has been lengthened by a year-and-a-half, from one every 4.8 years to every 6.3 years. ... However, the chance that such a quake will occur in the state in the next 30 years remains a virtual certainty, at above 99 percent. The chance is 93 percent in Southern California and 60 percent in the Los Angeles region, which includes portions of Orange County.

     The odds an 8.0 or higher quake will hit California over the next 30 years jumped from by 4.7 percent to 7 percent since the last forecast….
