California Corporate College is coming!

This (entitled "Logistics for California Corporate College Training") just in from DO of the IVC President's Office:

Dear Colleagues,
We wanted to share with you this important information: The upcoming event for the California Corporate College will be held from 7:30 am to 5:00 pm on September 17 [next Tuesday]. This is a new group of attendees and changes have been implemented to reduce the impact to the college, especially to parking and the cafeteria.  Below is the logistics update:
PARKING: On Tuesday, September 17, 2013, IVC will host a training session provided by the California Corporate College in the Performing Arts Center. Approximately 300 attendees are expected. Attendees will be directed to park in Parking Lot 8 and walk to the PAC. Please plan your day at IVC accordingly to ensure you can find a space. Staff Parking is also generally available in Parking Lot 9.
CAFETERIA: This is a new group of participants. They will  purchase a box lunch and eat in and near PAC for lunch (11:50-1:00). It is expected that there will be minimal impact on cafeteria and coffee carts. However, be advised that attendees may visit the cafeteria or the cart. Please share this information and to let your staff and students know of the impact on parking and (possibly) food services to help us minimize the impact of this event.
We at Dissent are doing our part to disseminate information as directed. We are happy that there is indeed information to disseminate and assume that this is the same group that descended upon campus unannounced to the hoi-polloi a week ago. (300 parking spaces!)

What is California Corporate College,* you might ask?
The frighteningly surreal image above (Pink Floyd album cover reject, no doubt) can be found at their website along with this descriptor:
California Corporate College - A new road to prosperity
Community by community, California employers have been partnering with California's Community Colleges in building their workforce talent for generations. California corporations, governmental agencies, associations and non-profits can find no better workforce development partner than their local community college.
But what if your organization has workforce development needs that reach beyond your local community? What if your employees in Sacramento, Fresno, Los Angeles and San Diego need training in Hazardous Materials Handling or Spanish as a Second Language?
There's something about the juxtaposition of Hazardous Materials Handling with Spanish as a Second Language that makes La Rebel Girl exclaim Muy Toxico!

*Learn more about California Corporate College here. "The California Corporate College ... provides a single point of contact for businesses, governmental agencies, associations, and organizations to access training and workforce preparation services throughout California. It is created as a cooperative venture of all of California’s Community Colleges."

P.S.:

I poked around and found a page of the IVC Master Calendar (for 8/30/13 to 9/29/13).
It includes two events for the “California Corporate College”: one on Wednesday, September 4 (i.e., last week) in the PAC Lobby (from 8:30 a.m. to 4:29 p.m.) and one on Tuesday, September 17 (i.e., next week) again in the PAC Lobby (again from 8:30 – 4:29).

So last week's parking fiasco was indeed caused by the CCC event.

Well, it's nice that they are finally deciding to share information with us. (Thanks to the outcry and Dissent!) But I was waiting for some kind of acknowledgement that they goofed and were sorry - I know, it's not gonna happen is it?

No.

The very name "California Corporate College" makes me shudder. Here's where monies go - no to faculty salaries or building or students services - but to consultants and admin types who just circulate through the system.

Why not schedule such an event on a Friday? And who overlooked giving us the heads up the first time? And yes, the empty parking lot on 9/11 was shameful - and get this - that was only half the number of spaces (150) they are reserving for the 17th (300).

Pretty amazing that A100 is now following the footsteps of the Classified Senate President on the importance of keeping employees informed of events that may have an effect on us. Maybe Vince should be in charge of the campus?

Vince gets my vote too! I understand the classified staff try to keep ahead of what is happening on campus, but it is also for self-preservation. Whenever something goes wrong, those in charge never take responsibility....they always try to blame someone else and that is usually the classified. You didn't see or hear anyone take responsibility for the fiasco last time did you? It is my understanding our new Dean Kathleen Greiner arranged for the event...did you see any apologies sent out to the campus????

From what I learned in my business and administration classes, healthy communication among colleagues indicates respect; a lack of communication and secrecy indicates the opposite.

So yeah, when "things" "happen" on campus and we are not told, when information is withheld instead of shared - no matter who we are and what tasks we perform - it is an act of disrespect.

They are certainly capable of communication. They simply choose not to do it.

Yes, Vince is so marvelously wonderful and thoughtful. He is so considerate of all his fellow employees and just so civil. Everything that guy touches turns to gold. How 'bout another award for good 'ole Vince?

Why garsh, me thinks Glenn Inc. owes him an honorary associates degree in business! Come on Glenn, we all know you can make it happen!

Glenn does love to give out awards to a certain few. Not to others. There are some people on campus that no matter what they do will never get a plaque from the guy. Petty.

Boy. Vince is getting some serious blog love these days.

Lots of interesting events on the IVC Master Calendar (which I have never seen before). I note that Gary Rybold has reserved almost all of BSTIC on Friday afternoons (well, at least four rooms) - which is unusual because he is also teaching at the same time in a DIFFERENT BSTIC room - how does that exactly work?

Gary is proving a theory: You can be in two (or more) places at once.

And get paid for it too!

Ever notice these past 5-10 years its always the same clique of people getting all the accolades, awards and plaques? Lately the frequency has increased to 3-4 times per year. Its interesting watching them pat eachother on the backs all the time. Certainly makes one wonder about our purpose what we have become...

Yup. They look so nice in those photos they take. The rest of us aren't smiley enough. Nor do the rest of us do anything worth noting even though we have worked here 5, 10, 15, 20, or 25 years.

They're even taking their own photos, who are they trying to kid? I could understand all the hoopla if they donated say, a few grand a piece toward scholarships or the foundation, otherwise what gives?
