Agenda for the July 22 meeting of the SOCCCD BOT

Covert: still rakin' in the big bucks
      As is his custom, Chancellor Poertner has sent us a handy link (a large pdf) to the agenda for Monday's meeting of the SOCCCD BOT. Thanks, Gary.
     I gave the agenda a quick once-over. Let us know if there's something we've missed that should be highlighted. (Click on graphics to enlarge them.)

DISCUSSION ITEMS:
Monday's discussion items: the student success "scorecard" & Prendergast's query re Obamacare
* * *

DISTRICT-WIDE "REFRESH":
This a consent calendar item: $3 million smackers for a "district-wide Network Refresh."
* * *

INSTITUTIONAL MEMBERSHIPS:
This concerns "institutional memberships." You'll be happy to learn that both colleges are—and will likely continue to be—members of the American Library Association. (DW, FU)
Looks like we spend $40K per year being a member of the CCLC. $40K!
* * *

$50,000 A YEAR TO WASC/ACCJC:
Saddleback pays WASC $30K per year for, um, accreditation services. IVC pays $20K.

* * *
EMERGENCY (FIRE) MEASURE:
A proposed resolution to deal with the emergency created by the recent BGS fire.
* * *

THIS IS JIM ROCKFORD:
$10,000 for "investigative services"? This is likely routine. Still, I'd like to know what it is that they investigate.
* * *

STINKIN' RICH LAW FIRM:
Ah, $60K for our old friends at the legal firm of A, A, L, R, & R. Amazing. I wonder how much money we've forked over to those guys over the years? Must be in the millions.
* * *

JUST STINKIN':
Parker & Covert? I do believe that refers to Spencer Covert, the dim bulb who guided the district through its "persistent and defiant" violations of the open meetings law (aka the Brown Act) years ago. Naturally, we're still employing that dope.

Gee Roy, you think you're so clever with your ALA, DW, FU comment. Basically Roy is saying FU to Don Wagner for opposing ALA membership.

Golly, you're smart.

Few of the faculty and staff were at those BOT meetings when the micromanaging was so intense and strictly based on political agendas. We had lots of petty dictators then. And there is always the chance this district could get another set of them.

Keep up the reminders of the past Roy. Much appreciated.

Roy's obituary in LA Times and Register: "we were lucky to have you while we did"
