Orange County Republican Party Chairman Scott Baugh determined today that his group's bylaws prevent a vote to remove Marilyn Davenport as an elected member even though she emailed a racist image of President Barack Obama to fellow Tea Baggers and Republicans.
The most drastic action the party can take is a censure, he said. Meanwhile, Davenport refuses to resign and Baugh continues to seek an apology and her voluntary resignation from the central committee.

At the risk of posing a false dilemma, I'd say the woman's actions are either (1) the result of a raging racist perspective over the negro president or (2) massive stupidity in that she really does not get the blatant impropriety of this little "joke" and actually thought that this was a satirical little jab. I'm going with (1) myself.
I suspect it's a bit of both but more of the latter. We live in an era in which many (more or less) decent people are sufficiently insulated from "shared knowledge among the educated" (that's the best I can do off the top of my head--but not quite right) that they lose or fail to gain such understandings and blunder into these situations, which are exacerbated by PC. I suspect that Davenport is a "nice, conservative lady" who is nevertheless clueless about important aspects of our history, or has let such understandings drift into oblivion. I would be amazed if she were an overt racist. But she has put herself in a position in which such errors can flower in this way. I hope she resigns or at least apologizes and limps away, more or less whole. I'm pretty sure that the OCGOP leadership are manifesting maximim ruthlessness in this situation, for they are battling the influence of Tea Partiers and are simply taking advantage of the situation to define themselves as non-racist while hurting those pesky, loose-canon Tea Partiers. --BvT
I find it humorous that Baugh wants to hold anyone accountable. We can't even get him to clean his own "house" and have the finances audited - as stated in the bylaws. What a joke he is.
It's somewhat like The Emporer's New Clothes - we all see it for what it is - bigotry- naked- but she continues to say that WE are crazy for thinking that !
