Cake break: well-aimed brutishness

One of my colleagues today described a curious incident at last night’s meetings of the SOCCCD board of trustees--one that I had failed to report last night. Near the beginning of the open meeting, Irvine Valley College President Glenn Roquemore walked to the podium to make an agendized presentation regarding the “Commemoration of Irvine Valley College’s 25th Anniversary.” But before the presentation could begin, board president Don Wagner announced that a cake—a commemorative cake—was available in the foyer behind the Ronnie Reagan Meeting Room.
“Let’s take a five minute break,” he said.
So that’s what we did. We took a cake break.
     So much for Glenn’s presentation.
This occurred before it became clear that Glenn was the evening’s official punching bag. So I figured that this odd episode was just a random Wagnerian loutery—a casual and ephemeral spasm of brutishness and yahooery without which Don would not be recognizable.
     Nope.

Oddly, Don did not participate in the formal pastry segmentation ritual

Don's on a diet.

Let's string together some rumors we've all heard and see what happens:

(1) Glenn is rumored to have wanted to succeed his mentor, Mathur, and (2) make Craig Justice the new president. But Wagner wouldn't go there. We now know (3) the rumor about Gary Poertner is true. So, to get back at Wagner in retaliation for not getting the chancellor job, (4) it's rumored that, following a suspect processs, Glenn's knocked Wendy out of the running for the dean position that (5) Wagner had pushed, which (6) leaves Wagner angry at Glenn for being double-crossed. Meanwhile, Wendy's just a victim of Glenn's and Craig's failed power play.

Six separate rumors and they hang together nicely. Wagner went to bat for Glenn and IVC to get rid of one rat bastard, only to find out that Glenn had learned his lessons well and is just another duplicitous, self-dealing, rat bastard. Only a fool would ever again trust Glenn Roquemore or Craig Justice. It's simple really.

Wendy is not "just a victim."

What is it about cake and these people?

Why would Wagner care so much about a dean position at IVC?

Who still trusts Glen and Craig? I don't. I don't think I ever did.

Does anyone ever consider that perhaps the 25th anniversary hoopla reminds Don of the tragic death of his son in June on the same night as the IVC gala? Just something to think about.

4:14, that explains nothing. Wagner was pissed because Wendy wasn't forwarded to the next level in the dean hire process at IVC. The only question is, why was she not forwarded?
Assumption: the fix was definitely in.
Then the fix was out. Why?

12:50 explains why. It wasn't a fair process in the end because Glenn double-crossed everybody. Very Mathurian, that Roquemore fellow, very Mathurian.
