If you want to try and win some more support, suggest that the marchers stop using signs in Spanish. It's counterpoductive.

I recall that some years ago Fuentes was responsible for having Mexican flags waved at a march in Santa Ana opposing Prop 187 (that may be incorrect). The purpose was to piss off the average white voter, and it worked.

Right. If only everybody would speak American English and fly only the American flag then things would be so much more just and right in our brave land.

That's not the point. The point is that a protest march should be trying to win hearts and minds, and flying foreign flags and speaking Spanish is going to be counterproductive. Otherwise, all they're doing is preaching to the converted, and that will have little effect on getting changes made.

Please help me understand why it is okay for people to cross the border illegally and then demand that they be given American citizenship and the rights that come with that when their first act in this country is to break the law? Why should a rancher lose his life trying to protect his property solely because he stands in the way of others determined to trample on *his* rights? Why should proximity and physical access (to the border) entitle a group of people to go around the law and legal process when there are many others from different countries that are willing to fill out paperwork and earn their right to citizenship? I understand the desire to have a better life and more opportunities, and I applaud that determination, but not at the expense of others.

Oh, and I agree with the commenter above about the use of Spanish on the protest signs. If you want to be here so bad, then goddammit, learn the language.

I think Rebel Girl speaks English. But perhaps you should ask her.
