At my (private, in trouble) University, we, the University Assembly faculty, met for many hours today to strategize: how to stave off an Administration plan to cut 30 of our tenure-track faculty in a rushed and ill-considered (and autocratically decided) attempt to solve a budget crisis. Faculty were wonderful; and if we don't win, it won't be for a lack of vigorous, tireless, and brilliant efforts.

We opened the meeting thinking of all of the other faculty, students, and other citizens out there protesting efforts to gut higher education of is ability to meet its mission of liberal education. We felt a profound sense of solidarity with you all.

Just wanted you to know.
