Flowers for a Friday

Been awfully busy.

I came across some photos I took when I was a teenager, when the family would go on two-week backpacking trips in the Sierra Nevada.

Used my dad's Pentax. It had a 50 mm lens. I added an extension tube for closeups.

I fooled around with reflected light and such. Pretty wacky, I guess.

This last one is a pic of my sister, c. 1974. By then, she had married a guy who later became a big cheese in the computer industry. About ten years ago, he crashed his experimental aircraft straight into the ground.

You're alive!

Nice flowers, know the names of any of them? Your sister looks... groovy.

I dig the photos, and your touchups!

And, since you're into that kinda thing, you should go buy this: http://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/60mm-afd.htm

It'll work flawlessly with your D70--a friend of mine has one, and I'm very impressed with its performance.

I also tried some flowery stuff lately, and here's what I got: http://www.flickr.com/photos/fenominal/sets/72157619766237871/

These photos go great with the Damien Rice tunes I'm listening too, B.

MOPI! I'm afraid I don't know this Damien fellow. But I'll check out some videos to see what I'm missing. Keep in mind that I took these photos more than 35 years ago, when I was a Kid, more or less. Then as now I refused to learn how to use the camera and lens, preferring to muddle my way through and ignore (and avoid) all advice. I'm so very glad to hear from you, mopi. I been mopin' without you!

Herr 13, I took your advice and bought a "refurbished" 60 mm lens (the older "D" model), plus some filters. It'll be a great addition I'm sure. Checked out your pics, and they're great. Inspiring! I see you guys spent time up 395: Convict Lake, Bodie, etc. Bodie is just about the best place on Earth to take pics, especially when the weather's good (or bad) and few people are there. I'll try an' dig up some of my shots from there (maybe 9 years ago).

hey, nothing wrong with refurbished!

My northern photos were taken last August, and the film ones were taken with a certain Nikon N6006 that someone graciously let me borrow...

On Monday, I'm heading back up there, though not quite as North. Father in law and brother in law and I are going backpacking somewhere on the eastern slope. I now develop my B/W at home, and bought a film scanner. I also bought 10 rolls of film to specifically bring the big camera, so I'll have plenty of photos soon. Them REI weenies were complaining about 50 lbs, but they don't know that my protective vest in Iraq weighed that much alone!

I'll more than likely write and share photos of the trip at http://rucksacktobackpack.blogspot.com

looking forward to seeing some of your new Macro shots!! (let's see the canyons from an insects', or cats' eye view!)

Checked 'em all out, MOPI. I do believe I've heard one of these before, maybe on House. Lovely stuff. Been contemplating the lyrics. Been in reverie 'bout you. Lookin' at pictures, walking the seashore, about you.
