Tom Fuentes: morality on holiday

You've gotta hand it to these "moral" right-wing Republicans. Most of the time, you can find 'em praying and moralizing and condemning the unrighteous.

—Yeah but, when election time rolls around, for this dark crew, morality goes totally on holiday

Consider Mr. Tom Fuentes' campaign for reelection as trustee on the SOCCCD Board of Trustees. He calls his opponent, Bob Bliss, a liberal unionist. In fact, Bliss is a conservative Republican.

Fuentes takes credit for our colleges' high transfer rates (of students to 4-year institutions). In fact, he has absolutely nothing to do with that achievement, which, in truth, is accomplished by the very people he routinely contemns and demonizes (those lazy faculty featherbedders, et al.).

Tom bases his claim to being a frugal "friend to the taxpayer" on the fact that the SOCCCD has not pursued bonds. But he neglects to mention that our district is swimming in taxpayer dough thanks to its unusual "basic aid" funding, which obviates bonds.

I asked an expert to explain how much tax money this district spends, thanks to its "basic aid" gravy train. "A total shitload," he said.

Tom crows about our "balanced budget," but he neglects to point out that he doggedly supports a hated Chancellor who, for years, has driven our district ever closer to disastrous noncompliance with the "50% Law," which requires that most expenditures be devoted to instruction, not buildings and administrator salaries.

Plus Tom doesn't mention some important truths--e.g., that he shares much of the responsibility for our two colleges' coming as close as they've ever come to losing their accreditation.

Thanks, Tom, for the trustee micromanagement and the plague of despair!

Check out the Tomster's latest mailer (see graphics).

Then, like Tom, contemplate morality and virtue and piety. Make sure your eyes are rollin' into the back of your head.

And think of the Lord thinking about Tom thinking about his campaign.

I do hope there is a Lord, just so Tom can finally meet him. I wanna be there for that.

I hope readers of this Blog are spreading the word. We need to re-elect Bill Jay and John Williams. We need to elect Carolyn Innmon to replace Dave Lang. We need to elect Bob Bliss to replace Fuentes. In short, vote Jay, Williams, Innmon, and Bliss. Otherwise, the SOCCCD is doomed.

If the SOCCCD BOT continues down the current path, both Colleges will have problems.

Does anybody out there in cyberland find it ironic that Fuentes is running for a seat on a college board with a platform that is clearly "anti-faculty"? Who meets with our students on a daily basis? Not Fuentes or Mathur. Who assists our students in meeting their transfer goals? Not Fuentes or Mathur. Who is in daily face-to-face contact with our students? Not Fuentes or Mathur.

Who should you believe? The faculty or two "anti-faculty", thus "anti-student" administrators (Mathur-Fuentes) with hugely deep pockets.

How, Mr Fuentes and Mr. Mathur, do your decisions affect our students?

Trust me, from a dedicated, hardworking faculty member, I have found that the decisions of Fuentes and Mathur affect our students negatively. Our students are your children. Our students are you.

Please vote...please vote Jay, Williams, Innmon, and Bliss.

Otherwise, parents and their kids need to check out OCC and fast.

JAY, WILLIAMS, INNMON and BLISS.

I am voting Jay, Williams, Innmon, and Bliss.

As a parent of a student attending Saddleback College, I am appalled at the anti-student rhetoric of Tom Fuentes. If Tom Fuentes prevails and this College Board continues to support the Chancellor, there is no hope for my daughter. She will transfer out of SOCCCD ASAP.

Based on my reading of the Fuentes literature, he does NOT support students.

We need college trustees who support our kids and support our teachers. Fuentes is out for his own gain at the expense of our kids. Fuentes is running on an "anti-teacher" platform.

Who hates teachers?

We have a "surly" faculty union?

Surly how? All we ever do is provide free lunches.

I'll show you surly. Ever look at Fuentes' mug during a board meeting? He's pissed, and there's usually no doubt about who he's pissed at!

Worse, 9:29, Fuentes doesn't only hate teachers, he hates students.

Why would Fuentes run for a college board when he obviously hates teachers and students?

Tom, are you out to get your third grade teacher who humilated you?

It is pretty obvious Tom Fuentes has issues with his past. Should we allow Tom to take his past childhood injuries with his third grade teacher out on our colleges?

Maybe Tom should see a therapist.

I agree with 9:30...if you want to see "surly" check out Fuentes at any board meeting. He screws his face into beyond despicable contortions, particularly if a student is addressing the board. He hates students.

If you really want to see "surly", watch Fuentes' face if a faculty member is speaking to the board. He hates faculty even worse than students. Watch his surly face.

If you really want to see a negative "surly" campaign (which rivals our national negative campagin), check out Fuentes' campaign literature. He obviously hates students and faculty.

Can you imagine that our electorate will vote for a college trustee who hates students and faculty?

Parents...beware!

Fuentes campaign literature is absurd. He is hate mongering. If teachers and students were a "protected class" under the law, Tom Fuentes would be in court.

Chunk, can you contact your lawyers and see if we can get students and teachers registered as a "protected class" from the hate mongering of Tom Fuentes?

Readers, can you get to folks? Bob Bliss is running against Fuentes.

We need Bliss!

A wee bit dramatic, don't ya think?

Tom great that he's saving our community all this money! Otherwise it all goes to the surly union fat cats...

Without "dept"? Doesn't he have enough money to hire people who can spell?
