Rebel Girl's Poetry Corner: Because a fire was in my head

It's been a week where Rebel Girl has woken time and time again with a fire in her head. She's writing - not on the blog - but in that other place that still exists, that hazel wood. So - listen to Christy Moore sing, watch the dancer, read the Yeats:

"The Song of Wandering Aengus"

I went out to the hazel wood,
Because a fire was in my head,
And cut and peeled a hazel wand,
And hooked a berry to a thread;
And when white moths were on the wing,
And moth-like stars were flickering out,
I dropped the berry in a stream
And caught a little silver trout.

When I had laid it on the floor
I went to blow the fire aflame,
But something rustled on the floor,
And some one called me by my name:
It had become a glimmering girl
With apple blossom in her hair
Who called me by my name and ran
And faded through the brightening air.

Though I am old with wandering
Through hollow lands and hilly lands,
I will find out where she has gone,
And kiss her lips and take her hands;
And walk among long dappled grass,
And pluck till time and times are done
The silver apples of the moon,
The golden apples of the sun.

Senior Al Qaeda in Iraq Leader Killed by U.S. Forces
Friday, September 28, 2007

WASHINGTON — U.S.-led forces have killed one of the most important leaders of Al Qaeda in Iraq, a Tunisian believed connected to the kidnapping and killings last summer of American soldiers, a top commander said Friday.

Brig. Gen. Joseph Anderson said the death of the terrorist in a U.S. airstrike Tuesday south of Baghdad, and recent similar operations against Al Qaeda, have left the organization in Iraq fractured.

"Abu Usama al-Tunisi was one of the most senior leaders ... the emir of foreign terrorists in Iraq and part of the inner leadership circle," Anderson said.

Better yet, get thee down to the recruiting office. Your country needs you, or are you one of those chicken hawk types?

There are third-party comment providers for Blogger that allow you to ban posters by IP address or netblock. They're not perfect, but better than what we've got. Verbum sapienti sat, Chunk.
