They're droppin' out bigtime

.
From Monday's UC Berkeley News: Study finds early difficulty for community college students
A new report by Policy Analysis for California Education (PACE) finds that six in 10 students who enter the California community college system as freshmen with high school diplomas and aspirations to transfer to four-year institutions drop out or lower their academic sights after just one semester. The report recommends increasing support for these students….

Yep, that would be emphasis on basic skills.

The smart get smarter, the rest go to community college.

You are either an elitist or uninformed. Which are you?

The reason students drop out is they lack the basic skills needed to take college courses. The silver lining to this report is that community college courses are on a par with the 4 year institutions (reason for unprepared students dropping out).
The solution is to modify open enrollment to require every student to take the placement exam. We should keep open access, but students need to have an accurate understanding of their skill level.

Open access is a disaster and a waste of tax payer dollars.

Open access does cause problems indeed, a whiny liberal idea that, in some cases, is wreaking havoc .

Hey Liz, How's Owen?

The retention situation is a sad comment on the high schools. If they can't produce students who meet the paltry requirements of community colleges, what are they doing?

No one whines better than a right winger, 7:48. How's your buddy Wiley Drake doing?

Yea right, 11:17, you're certainly an expert on whining, aren't you? After all whining was invented by homely looking liberal women and their spineless men during the 60s who cowardly hid behind their peace symbols, which everyone knows is the footprint of the American chicken.

How's the mouth breathing going, 8:15? We can hear the knuckles dragging from down the street.

Speaking of chickens, how many Republicans in the current administration and Congress served in the military, compared to the Democrats? Look it up--we'll wait.

And, have you thought of enlisting? Your country needs you, in the spreading of democracy sort of way.
