The Big Picture

ECHOING THE FINDINGS of a recent national study, a study conducted over six years by Cal State Sacramento's Institute for Higher Education Leadership & Policy suggests that only one-fourth of degree seeking community college students attain their goals.

Read the L.A. Times coverage of the report: "Few California community college students graduate or transfer, study says"

Rebel Girl's favorite observation:
"There is a tremendous amount of pressure to get student enrollment as high as possible," said Steve Boilard, higher education director for the nonpartisan Legislative Analyst's Office in Sacramento. "But very little pressure to make sure they complete or transfer out."
Now go grade your papers.

RG, we missed you at the farewell celebration for Becca. But I think she was touched by the nice turnout. A good time was had by all, even those who don't drink.

Thanks for words Michael and Gila.

Yes, M - you'll be hearing from me. It's a great project and I have some more readings you might want to consider.

and Gila - good to hear from you. I could tell there would be a party going on - but Thursdays are dedicated to my fiction workshop...maybe I can make a showing in the summertime...any idea where Rebecca will land?
