Evidently, early on, Tustin’s Jerry Amante announced his plan to run for the 70th AD (which includes Irvine and environs), but his efforts to raise money have been disappointing.
In yesterday's post, Bartlett mention’s tonight’s event at the Balboa Bay Club with Tom Fuentes as MC. He adds a list of “hosts”:
Family Action PAC, O.C.Y.R’s, Mark Bucher, Tammy Bullard, Dr. Alexandria Coronado, John Dodd, John Eastman, Jeremy Gray, Matt Harper, Bill Hewitt, David Lang, Hon. Wendy Leece, Lee Lowrey, Hon. Mike McGill, Marcia Milchiker, Kevin Muldoon, Scott Peotter, Atlas Pac, Jim Righeimer, Larry Smith, Serge Tomassian, Tim Whitacre, Hon. John Williams, Dr. Ken Williams, Phil YarbroughAs you know, SOCCCD Trustee Bill Jay announced his support for Don at the September board meeting. Judging by the above list, trustees Marcia Milchiker, John Williams, and Dave Lang are on board, too.
And Bill Hewitt.
Admission is free. —“Hosted Cigars, No-Host Bar, and Music”
Note:
Back in 1993, Mark Bucher and Jim Righeimer (along with Frank Ury) fought for a school voucher initiative, which failed. After that, with money from Howard Ahmanson, Jr., the three founded Tustin's Education Alliance, a conservative "back to basics" group. In 1998, Ury, Righeimer, and Bucher authored the so-called “campaign reform initiative." You’ll recall that Proposition 226 would have required “all labor unions to obtain annual written permission from union members before allocating any dues for political action or political education efforts” (Cosmo Garvin).
Not long ago, at a board meeting, several trustees reported their attendance of an EA event. Don Wagner, evidently, is on EA's board.
Bill Hewitt, an IVC counselor, is an officer of the SOCCCD faculty union (Faculty Association/CCA/CTA).

Well, well, well.
I'm sure they will be other FACULTY and ADMIN TYPES joining in the fun tonight.
Why don't you go Chunk and see who shows up?
Now that Don is moving out of education politics and into larger realms, we should be finding out his position on issues that the legislature deals with.
Waht is his position on marriage equality, for example?
What is Bill Hewitt's? Wendy Phillips?
" ... a snail darter or some such endangered vermin...."
Now THERE'S a sophisticated, sensitive candidate for you.
MAH
I can understand - some what - Bill Hewitt cozying up to Don during negotiations - but why contribute to an ultra-right wing candidate's war chest for an office in Sacramento? Despicable.
So Bill's a Republican!
I still think they shouldn't be able to inflict their PRAYERS on people at such an event.
Why is Bill Hewitt supporting such a right-winger you ask? He dossn't really support Don in his heart of hearts - he just like to party and be in with the in crowd. It IS despicable.
sell outs!
There were more than a few sell-outs there last night...power corrupts.
I'm kind of hoping Marcia is there only with the hope of getting rid of him as a trustee. In the Assembly he'd be more harmless.
Soon we'll be able to pull the campaign reports and see who is writing Don checks! I can't wait to see who is supporting his ultra-conservative agenda!
I remember when then-Dean Howard Gensler had a list of people who contributed to the anti-board majority campaign - faculty, staff adn stduents - he walked around with it, trying to instill fear. His behavior was really beyond the pale - especially since he had student names on it. The list had obviously been given to me to do just that.
I am certainly interested to see which faculty leaders have come out to support Don and his reactionary, anti-civil rights agenda - it would certainly change my feelings about them as faculty leaders.
