South Orange County Community College District Mourns the Loss of Trustee Bill Jay
March 3, 2015 - South Orange County Community College District (SOCCCD) is deeply saddened to report that Trustee William (Bill) Jay has passed away. Dr. Jay dedicated his professional career to the South Orange County Community College District, touching many lives along the way. From 1974 to 1999 he served in multiple leadership roles at Saddleback College including College President, Dean of Instruction, and Professor of Mathematics. In his role as Dean, he developed off-campus programs to start Irvine Valley College. From 1996 until his retirement in 1999, Dr. Jay served as Vice Chancellor of Administrative Services and Human Resources for the District. Dr. Jay has served as trustee since 2004.
“We mourn the loss of our friend and long-time colleague, Bill Jay,” SOCCCD Board President T.J. Prendergast said. “Dr. Jay was a pleasure to work with - good-natured, funny, kind and easy going. He dedicated his life to making higher education attainable for everyone.”
Dr. Jay graduated with a Bachelor of Arts and a Masters of Education from the University of Vermont. In 1980, he earned a Doctorate of Education from the University of Southern California, Los Angeles.
He is survived by his wife, Bobbie; children, Jennifer Cordon and Jeffrey Jay; five grandchildren; sister, Judy George and mother, Julia Waterman Jay. Our hearts are with his family, friends and colleagues. He will be greatly missed. Memorial services are being planned by the family and will be announced.*
