B-Day cards (Bastille Day)

By Sarah, age 10: Opa and his pickup
Again, Sarah: watching vids with Uncle Roy
UPDATE: A certain reader (I'll call her "Jan") requested that we include drawings provided by my niece Sarah for gifts to my dad and to me.
     Happy to oblige.
The image/card on top (above) is for my dad, who drives a blue Toyota truck. Note the deer, the rabbits, and the snakes. The one on the bottom is for me. It depicts those occasions in which I show the kids videos on YouTube. Strictly wholesome stuff, I assure you. Among our favorites: the famous "teasing the dog" video.
Sarah seems oddly aware that we tend to use Apple equipment here in the canyon.
As Jan suggested, Sarah, who seems much older than her ten years, is pretty talented. Without direction from anyone, she's taken up the family tradition of creating "card art." She seems to be very competitive, driven. Not that anybody around here wants to compete with her. But she wants to do the things we oldsters do, which is only natural.
(For more about Bauer "card art," see Annie's Card Art.)

card detail (Sarah)

Original post:

It's "birth" extravaganza day here at the Bauers. Seems like everybody's born in July. So, today, we'll celebrate my dad's, my nephew's and my B-Day. (My bro's B-Day is on the 29th!)
We have a "home-made card" tradition here in Bauer Land, and, usually, Annie and I work on them together. This time, circumstances conspired to prevent that. I made the one below (two sides) for young adam. Annie made the second one (again below, two sides) for my dad.
As you can see, Annie's the one with artistic talent. (But see Sarah's stuff above!)

BGS fire update

—July 14: A quick update on that odd fire/death at Saddleback College’s BGS building:
According to the Mission Viejo Patch (Saddleback College Fire Victim Identified), the kid who died in the fire was “21-year-old Saddleback College student Jacob Matthews of Lake Forest.”
As you know, he died of his injuries at the hospital, not long after the fire that occurred in "room 356 of the campus' BGS building.”
According to Orange County Fire Authority spokesman Jon Muir, the fire damaged only the lecture hall. Further,
Although the fire began near an air conditioning unit, the air conditioner did not cause the fire….
Yeah, it was arson. They're not sure if Matthews was the arsonist.

Roy's obituary in LA Times and Register: "we were lucky to have you while we did"
