U. of California Endorses 3-Year Degrees and Online Education (Chronicle of Higher Education)
A University of California commission said today that the system should offer three-year degrees, expand online education, and increase its enrollment of graduate students and community-college transfer students. The group, the UC Commission on the Future, has been studying how the system should respond to declining state support since last year. It rejected ideas to charge different undergraduate tuition at each campus, to forgo new capital projects, and to adopt a tuition schedule that would promise undergraduates they would pay the same tuition over multiple years.
