South Orange County Community College District trustees voted in a special meeting Thursday night to hire a consultant to aid in the search for a new chancellor.
Chancellor Raghu Mathur will leave the district June 30, after nearly eight years at the helm of both Saddleback and Irvine Valley colleges. Mathur's departure was announced in late January after Mathur and trustees reached an agreement to terminate his contract early.
Consultants will be interviewed at the March 25 board meeting, SOCCCD spokeswoman Tracy Daly said.
Mathur has alleged his early departure is the result of being forced out by board president Don Wagner over the creation of a new dean position at Irvine Valley College.

He's out whether forced or not: and let us get his master key back at the last day of his eight year mess and nightmare. Amazing how a man of little intelligence, an EDD, and a view of himself that no one else has probably ever had will soon be minor history. And let us keep him out of chemistry classes, too.
Don't you people have an HR department that can handle the Chancellor hiring process without throwing money away on a high priced consultant? What can a consultant do that your own in-house HR department can't? So not only do the taxpayers get to foot the bill for buying out the final year on the Chancellor's contract(plus his attorney's fees) now they get fleeced to pay for a consultant to replace him. So much for fiscal responsibility. Someone owes the public an explanation.
Without an independent consultant to oversee the process, Raghu will either stall so Team Fuentes can bring him back or corrupt the process so the district ends up with somebody as bad as Raghu. Either option will cost big bucks. The amount of money the district is spending to get rid of this guy is a drop in the bucket compared to the amount of money they've wasted on lawsuits defending his incompetence. Good job Don, Marcia, Nancy and Bill. It is about time somebody on the board stood up for the best interest of the colleges.
8:24, securing an outside consultant for the hiring of a chancellor or president is customary in other districts. It seems that the SOCCCD is finally on a path of doing the right thing!
Well, let's not get overly optimistic. It is only four trustees, led by Don Wagner, interested in doing the right thing. Lang, who used to be interested in doing the right thing has sold out to Fuentes. Williams has always been interested in Williams.
Thank god Don Wagner figured out what Raghu Mathur is all about. Took a while but he finally got there after Wagner caught Mathur red handed, lying, as usual. I can't believe Wagner took on Fuentes. God bless Wagner. Even though some disagree with his politics, we need elected school board members who are willing to stand up and do the right thing for education.
Lang???? He knows better.
The SOCCCD needs a chancellor NOW. The lack of leadership at the district has taken a toll, depsite the faculty and administrative leadership at the colleges.
Let's get a new chancellor. Hang in there Marcia. Fuentes is ugly.
After Mathur is gone, let figure out how to get rid of Fuentes! This District deserves to get back to educating students and forget all the political garbage.
