Are you indicating that he will not require shots and masks for folks on campus?

He states explicitly in the article that masks will be required indoors for everyone.

Sorry, but when I saw the headline and picture of the president, there was no "Read More" attached.

Stern does not want mandatory vaccinations. Despite the state chancellor recommending that.

I heard that some classes in Fine Arts will have maskless students despite the objections of the faculty.

Bob et al, the college president cannot mandate vaccines - only the board can do that.

Someone is going to die, probably not the unvaxxed, unmasked student.

I get Stern's point but wonder about the cost and risk this opportunity to "teach" the unavxxed will take. I don't think I went into teaching to risk my life and the lives of those with whom I live. We often restrict students' choices and access due to many factors. Unvaxxed students could continue to take classes online and learn about the value of vaccination there with risking the health of others.

Vaccine mandates are not new to higher education, and all tools should be used to keep everyone safe on campus during a pandemic . That includes requiring the vaccine or providing weekly testing for students who cannot or chose to not comply. Education of misinformation is still possible while requiring the vaccine, and full licensure of the mRNA vaccines are on the horizon for the next one to two months. Other community colleges (like Long Beach) are requiring the vaccine, and the state chancellor of community colleges has pushed for districts to really consider vaccine requirements. Faculty, staff, and students should all be able to have a layered approach of vaccines, masks, and proper ventilation. This should not be controversial, and the refusal to follow the lead of other colleges and universities will not sit well with faculty and staff who will feel that their lives and health are not a priority at their workplace.

Requiring vaccinations for face-to-face learning is not "turning away students" as those student can still take classes online.

It is the responsible thing to do to protect students, staff and faculty and their loved ones.

Stern is hiding behind "open access."

Stern, I suspect, is in a difficult situation with little experience in this area.

I could see that your district will be very chaotic and bankrupt in the coming years because everything is so politicized including vaccination. You are driving these poor students away.

LA City College is requiring vaccinations and/or regular testing - plus masks. They have 9 campuses.

That Bob guy is understating how little experience Dr Stern has in managing a college effectively...

Looks like 1/3 of the community colleges are requiring a vaccine now.

Since I retired 4 years ago, I don't know how well he is managing Saddleback. But thanks for the observation Sir 8:21.

We need to pressure the board to do the right thing and require vaccinations for face-to-face attendance. This isn't going to go away or be managed easily.

I guess going back into the classroom is only safe for students and faculty. Dr Stern is hosting his welcome session during flex week outside.
Do as I say, not as I do.
This was from his office today:
"Colleagues,
Just a reminder, the President’s Opening Session will take place on Monday, August 16th at 2pm. It will be a hybrid event, so you have the option to attend in person (in the courtyard in front of the Science building) or you can view the live stream here."

Other presidents have held sessions outside at that sight but they were. not in a pandemic.

@6:32
First time for a welcome session. I can only think of 2 times and they were either related to the building itself or were for large groups.
NOT in August in the afternoon.

@8:21am "That Bob guy is understating how little experience Dr Stern has in managing a college effectively..."

Yes, yet your IVC college president has the same take on this ... let's see if these faculty will have the audacity to speak up during the opening session on Monday

@3:48 The IVC president is being mentored by the Saddleback president.

Requesting a post on the South Orange Count Community College District’s $1000 vaccination incentive plan….

Anonymous said...

The $1,000 incentive plan is grotesque. The vaccination is FREE. A mandate please and those who don't wish to get a shot can teach/learn online. That money should go elsewhere. Student scholarships, hardship grants, etc.

Anonymous said...

This is communist control headed by the Faculty union! Just because they made a stupid mistake of having themselves vaccinated (and eventually die), they now want everyone to be vaccinated!

Anonymous said...

It might seem grotesque but what it is is the district using up the HEERF funds from the Cares Act. Use it or lose it. And 10:29, no need to collect your optional capitalist incentive of $1,000.

Anonymous said...

Could they have re-directed that $ to the students as incentives?

Anonymous said...

9:53am are you one of those professors who is pushing others to get vaccinated but you yourself didn’t get one? Now this $1000 incentive is making these hypocrites nervous because the district will discover that they did not actually get vaccinated! To those who are posting your vaccination photos on social media… let’s see if that matches your medical records!

Vaccinate yourselves but respect my rights! I will never impose this on anyone, so don’t impose it on me: https://www.globalresearch.ca/31-reasons-why-i-wont-take-vaccine/5740534

@4:44pm are you kidding me??? "The IVC president is being mentored by the Saddleback president."

"Mentored" for what???

I don't see anyone here protesting against the Biden administration on the influx of thousands and thousands of Covid infected illegal immigrants crossing the border. Yet you are pressuring students and faculty to take this poison? Vaccinate your head!

Which trolls? Those who do not agree with you?

The comments here are starting to resemble those on Facebook. Looks like you’ve got some bots.

It all started with Roquemore. Now that he’s gone, they’re after Stern. IVC tenured faculty v. “non-tenured” administrators … who’s next, your IVC president? Not too long ago, someone was all praises for Stern’s “no photo-op” BOT report and ridiculed Roquemore for his “photo-op” BOT report … and now what??

Anonymous said...

Did Stern ever change his mind about this? Did you notice that Greg Bishopp commented on Stern's article on Linked-In? What IS Linked-In anyway?
