Disastrous administrators: an SOCCCD tradition

Stevens
Just a reminder: this district and its colleges have a striking record of hiring disastrous administrators despite serious red flags.
     I’ll mention two obvious examples.
The infamous case of Dean Rodney Poindexter. (See also Mathur: reference checks for Poindexter)
The notorious case of Chancellor Larry Stevens. (See especially The Larry Stevens years, 1982-1986, Part 2: a hatchet man "heavy on the decisive action and light on the open, free exchange”)
     Just sayin’.

The guy who proposed the Book Burning at the IVC library to solve the problem of excess books and to "bring attention" to the campus.

We employed a guy who thought book burning was a positive activity?

Al Tello was a low-level GOP functionary hired by the college as head of the IVC Foundation,. See Hey kids! Let's put on a book burning!

Their unwillingness to ever admit misjudgment has been discouraging, if not dangerous. Even now, no will ever say they were wrong. Ever. So no wonder the disappearance of the Saddleback president is hush-hush. When an institution hides things, it cannot grow from its mistakes and they occur again and again.

So much of this may be due to the failure (maybe not the right word) to vet much more than we tend to do--for all hirings.

But 9:18 AM is right--we need to know so we can grow. And avoid, as much as possible, hiring folks who will fall short, not accept responsibility, and will fault others.

You don't believe Anderson suddenly developed "personal circumstances" that required a police escort off campus?

Isn’t misjudgment somewhat admitted when someone is fired? Not everything that happens is everyone’s business. Confidentiality exists for a reason. If you were fired would you want everyone to know about it? If you filed a complaint wouldn’t you want it kept confidential?

Accountability please. What about what he set in motion during the time he was here? His judgment/misjudgment in those areas? And the people who took advantage of it? And the people hurt by it? And the culture that continues to produce and promote candidates like him?

Apparently word is getting around about Saddleback's previous president. Stay tuned.

I still can’t believe all these people come and go and we are still stuck with Glenn at IVC.
