The campus looked great, especially when the sun poked through the clouds, as it did intermittently |
These posies were near the podium where all the speechifyin' occurred |
Some of the usual suspects, happily doing their jobs |
Again, the sun shone only intermittently, making things hard for shutterbugs |
The start of the parade of Toga People |
Is it just me or do others find that students get better looking each year? |
It's good to be alive against a backdrop of blueness and clouds |
Blue, it must be said, looks better than red. Lucked out there. |
As always, I noticed the little kids in the audience, invariably enjoying the inexplicable large and colorful weirdness of the goings on |
Where there is sun, there are shadows |
IVC President Glenn Roquemore spouted his usual factoids |
Trustee David Lang, coughin' up a hairball, I guess |
The crowd almost seemed vast. It was big, anyway Lots of cops around, keepin' the peace |
A vast, complicated sky |
Trustee TJ Prendergast His daughter was out there, somewhere |
IVC Police Chief Will Glen |
You really need sun for shots like these |
A little sun appeared |
Little kids are almost as good as pups and kittens, photo-wise |
Again: the sky was vast and intimidating |
Teacher of the Year, Rebecca Beck Her brief address was much admired: pithy and perfect |
A moment of bluster |
Often, the photographer is only tolerated |
Had something actually happened? Did I miss it? |
This felt like a protest, but it wasn't, of course |
Big Time scholar on campus |
The residue of celebratory exploding streamer projection |
Golden minute |
One of Mark's students |
Smiley colleagues. Good colleagues. |
I was too busy lookin' for images to notice what this was all about |
More goldenness |
"With that beard, you look pretty academic," said someone. "It's as Academic as he's ever gonna get," I added Mark, in his own way, is an éminence grise |
Goldenness |
I don't care what anybody says, I like our Biz Quonset |
Meanwhile, over at BSTIC, geometry was on display |
Over at SSC: fake brick |

Commencement is always good. This one seemed better somehow.
You can't help but feel happy for them.
Great visuals Roy. Much better coverage than Brittny BamRam provided on the IVC facebook page. What a joke. A short video and several pics.
I see Roy's got some pics of little Bambi Ram yucking it up. How 'bout that, she goes 'round snap'n a few pics at some events and now all of a sudden she an expert New Media and Marketing Specialist, range 138! WOW...
it's the tight dresses and Jimmy Choo's!
Great photos as always.
Can we please stop making gender related comments about Diane and Brittany? They may be problematic but this is inappropriate and hurtful.
I agree, 4:03. If you've got a point, make it. Don't shoot yourself in the foot by mixing in untoward remarks (about dresses and such). Get a fuckin' clue.
There is more than a little irony in the fact that some folks are hatin' in their comments despite Roy's recognition of Chermerinsky's plea fto be nice. Thanks to Roy for reminding the troglodyte faction to either have a point or go away. Of course that statement is about to draw the ire of said troglodytes as Pollyanna-ish - oh well, it's tough to put a damper on what is always a great day, so I'll take the heat with a grain of salt and a smile. Thanks for the pics, I look forward to this post every year.
Great photos!
Who said anything about diane?
@4:19: Untoward remarks? Coming from you?
Didnt see oaks at commencement... probably busy polishing her crown.
Really Roy, you don't think the way BR dresses is inappropriate? Incredibly tight and see through clothing, 6" f-me pumps? Her attire is embarrassing. She is now one of the more visible people on this campus and represents YOU at events on and off campus. Great message to send the community and students. As her boss, DO needs to reel her in. On the other hand, she does reflect the "haves" and "haves not" culture on this campus.
Wearing see through clothing at work is unacceptable unless the job requires it...
I'm appalled at the comments that are being made on this blog regarding our colleagues. You can certainly have an opinion regarding the worthiness of people receiving promotions but the nasty, sexist and immature tone coming from some of you is more appropriate for a high school locker room than an institution of higher education. If you want your criticisms of college policy or administrators to be taken seriously please speak and act like mature adults and not like jealous and petty adolescents.
7:32, I couldn't agree more.
I don't have a problem with 8:39a.m.'s comments. Wearing inappropriate clothing at a college is unacceptable.
It is inappropriate for people like 7:32p.m. telling others what opinion we can have or not have. Freedom of Speech.
Interesting that there are a number of pics on this photo essay of pretty female students. Didn't see any pictures of obese female students.
Did anyone notice the big blunder in the commencement program. It lists President Jemal to give the greetings Trustee Prendergast gave the greetings. Way to go Oaks and her crew!
Wow 7:32 and Roy. You have clearly misunderstood the point that was being made. I guess you a very happy with the way BR & DO ptesent themselves as reps for the college. Definitely not jealous. More annoyed and embarrassed by their behavior.
Speaking for myself, I distinguish between remarks of the "tight dresses and Jimmy Choo's!" kind from those simply suggesting that some employees dress inappropriately and should know better. It's a matter of tone mostly.
7:57, simply describing others' speech as objectionable does not violate their speech rights. Get a fuckin' clue. --Roy B
1:23 pm- You may have an Ear but not any eyes. Yes, she was there with her staff.
Haahaaha. Nope. Not there.
I don't see any pictures of Brittany? What's everyone talking about?
B-Ram is seen in 3 photos. 2 with Chemerinski and 1 yucking it up behind trustee Wright.
F U Roy! Fucking hypocrite!
Very good 1:23pm, "Polishing her crown". I could not agree more.
She used to be a cooperative and enjoyable-to-work-with colleague as was the Publications Office, no longer, - hammering, top down, - an incredulous belief in knowing more than faculty experts? 'Queen Oaks' is aggressively protected regardless of conduct by the Prez, - IVC has become more Orwellian by the day. I hear she may even pick (decree?) the flavor of cake for receptions, - she thinks that's all we should eat?
Thank you very much Dave 'Benedict Arnold' Lang and the rest of the Board.
