Leaf blower in classroom. No comment. |
These photos were procured from a colleague who snapped them via cellphone. They seemed to capture something special about our daily life at the little college in the orange groves and the photographer agreed to have them appear here.
Note: The photos were not staged. The leaf blower was found in the classroom when instructor and students arrived in the morning, just so on a desk. The red bicycle was was tethered to the sign pole, as it often is in the mornings.

So much depends upon the red bicycle. |
You too can be a part of

Did anyone turn the leaf blower on?
A leaf blower could be very useful in a classroom. I want one in mine.
Is that an official IVC leaf blower or a personal one?
That has actually also happened to me before. Though I have no photographic evidence. Coincidence, I think not!
My class met in the same room--after the photo was taken. My students were generally troubled by the presence of the leaf blower--they seemed to think it looked too much like a weapon. We did turn it on, however, but found it was out of juice.
What's up with the new improved scholarship program? One of my students got an odd notice that she won one (perhaps more) but it was an odd announcement.
The program is next week...the notices are only going out now????
The red bicycle is chained to the sign post because of the lack of planning. No there are no BIKE RACKS outside BSTIC or the PAC (the two largest buildings on campus). That's why bikes are chained to light posts and sign posts.
We always say its about the students, however, as pointed out in this article, things that are important to students such as the scholarships and where to park a bike are not a focal point of the administration. If they were, the scholarship program would be well run with a fair selection process and realistic timeline. Bike racks would be well placed around the campus so students wouldn't have to chain them to light posts. Someday administrators should actually walk around campus and see what needs attention. The cacoon they live in must very confining.
I didn't notice what the bike was chained to - I just thought it was a nice photo. You make good points though.
My students understand why they don't know yet which scholarships they have won. The surprise factor. However, I do hope the program this year will list the scholarships and the winners together. I have never understood why in the past we have not done this. It makes it impossible to learn who won what unless you are taking rapid notes when they announce it from the podium.
I'll bet it won't list the scholarships and winners together....it's FUBAR as usual with the scholarship selection and notification to the students.
