Scabrously scathulistic.
A veritable harangutan!
How reliable is his or her peevitudinal fountain of fulmination? That’s hard to say. Over the years, I’ve found this person to be fairly reliable. Plus, they’ve made an effort to qualify their opinions when they aren’t certain.
Over the years, I’ve spoken with lots of people in the know. The impression they leave is consistent with this here rude rant.
Given that, and given this particular person’s general reliability and in-the-loopitude, I’m inclined to offer the following as a guest commentary. –From Mr. or Ms. Anonymous, for what that's worth.
As always, feel free to respond. Write a formal response. We’ll print it.
Let’s have some dialogue!
So, on with the Cry of the Fulmi Nation:
Guess what? The Foundation Gala has been moved from June 15th to September 21st. Why? Because the Foundation Director’s vaunted “big donors & sponsors” have once again failed to materialize.
This desperate rescheduling gambit was employed last year too (moved from June to October in 2012). Remember?
Richard Morley is turning out to be like the last Foundation Director, Trustee Fuentes’ boy, Al: he can’t do more than one thing at once. I've never seen him chew gum whilst locomotin'.
Harangutan
I’m told that Morley still hasn’t personally raised any money. He seems to think that that’s not his job. In Morleytown, it’s the job of this big power board he was going to build for us.
Yeah. Remember last year’s Veteran's Angels Foundation Gala? Glenn declared that the event was a huge success; it raised $16,00. Remember?
But where is that money? The veterans never received a penny of it. (Ask ‘em.)
In truth, the $16,000 reported to the public included pledges received. Nope, not money raised: pledges received.
Glenn's curious announcement (and spelling) |
Good honesty, Glenn.
And one wonders how many of those pledges actually came through. How much of the $16,000, I wonder, became a general fund subsidy when the bills for the event came due?
Why is Glenn afraid to reveal the degree to which the Foundation is subsidized with general funds? How’s about some transparency?
And how is the support of the Foundation reflected in the Strategic Planning process?
After nearly two years, it’s time for some accountability from the Foundation Director. Morley drove away most of the (Foundation) Board that he inherited in 2011. Glenn let him do it. And it appears that Morley has raised no money personally.
Meanwhile, he has alienated much of the faculty and classified staff. If he enjoys support, it is largely from administrators and directors. But those people are unwilling to clue Glenn in on reality. Too risky.
So tell us, Glenn. Where are those “power board members” who were supposed to bring in those big fat checks? Shouldn’t there be some heavy hitters on the Foundation board by now?
Oh yeah, I forgot. This sort of thing “takes four to five years.” Sure maybe, if the college enjoyed a healthy adult environment. As it is, the transitional Morleyfication of the Foundation entailed the immediate banishing of virtually all experienced members. What’s left?
Glenn, face it: you are Morley’s only supporter on campus.
And SOCCCD BOT: how’s about some oversight?

"harangutan" - you're very funny! Seriously, what do these guys DO all year? The scholarship program has not been appreciably upgraded, streamlined, FIXED -whatever was supposed to happen - and now this. Geez.
When Morley excised experienced members from the board, he promised he would bring on major donors from the business community (and they would make a substantial donation of $10,000 when they joined). Since he became director, only 2 members have joined the board and my sources tell me that neither one paid the $10,000. This is just the tip of the iceberg...I also understand that the promised 100k "matching" for PRO IVC will not happen and the program was changed without notification to the participants. Wake up Glenn...we know what is going on...why don't you?
Roy, you are wrong...most of the administration also dislikes Morley. They are just afraid to speak up. Morley is the biggest charlatan, talk, talk, talk, but in the end, no results. I still laugh about the big welcome that Glenn put on for him in A100 when he joined. 45minutes of BS from Morley and everyone knew it was all bulls..t that Morley was going to introduce Glenn to all the movers and shakers (he actually said Donald Bren) Morley couldn't even get in the front door at the Irvine Company. He is a buffoon.
What happened to the big red phallic-like thermometer that is usually suspended on the Student Services building to track PRO IVC donations?
I understand they don't want to publicize the PRO IVC program. Evidently the $100,000 match is not going to be $100k. Just another Morley sleight of hand that Glenn is allowing to be perportrated on the campus. And the Administration wonders why no one trusts them.
Morley Scorecard:
Veterans Angels 2012 = 0
Cancelled Golf Tourney = 0
Veterans Angels 2013 = 0
Total = Morley = 0
They're reading the Blog. They just sent out a ProIVC email reminder. The Blog kicks butts!!!
From what I understand, Glen was cautioned during reference checks about Morley - but went ahead anyway - why? Guys like this keep jobs for a year or two until their lack of ability becomes clear - collect their paychecks (big ones - bigger than ours ) then move on. Nice work if you can get it.
I want to know if Morely is in charge of the supposedly reformed IVC scholarship process...? Anyone know? It's no better than it was -and it could hardly be worse.
I thought there was a task force to fix the scholarship process. i do not know if Morley was part of that. but what happened to it? nothing seems to have changed.
Morley is an expert at skiing Bandini Mountain (for those who don't know, Bandini is a Fertilizer) With Morley it's all BS all the time. The college is spending hundreds of thousands of dollars a year to support the Foundation with almost nothing to show for it.
But was it not always thus? Who was it before Morely? The guy who wanted to organize a famous exhibit on old shoes and burn books?
Look at What the OCC Foundation Just Received
CR&R Waste and Recycling Services has pledged a gift of $500,000 to support Orange Coast College’s Recycling Center, including a major expansion that will enable the campus center to accept more materials and operate more efficiently.
The gift will be paid over a period of five years – at $100,000 per year – according to Doug Bennett, director of OCCs Foundation. CR&R, based in Stanton, is one of Southern California’s most innovative and successful recycling and waste collection companies, serving more than 2.5 million people and 5,000 businesses throughout Orange, Los Angeles, San Bernardino, Imperial and Riverside counties. The company handles waste for the college and has also worked with the campus Recycling Center for many years.
I've known Doug Bennett for years and he is a professional...Morley couldn't (and isn't qualified to) carry his jockstrap! When Glen talks about Morley opening doors, he means to the A100 restroom.
Maybe we could donate Morley to OCC he is a complete waste.
Quit picking on Morley. It's not his fault (nor was it of his predecessor Tello) that the Foundation has no direction or accountability to the students, faculty or staff. This is Roquemore's Foundation and he (through Morley) allows them to do as they please. There is no "transparency" as to what really goes on. Hundreds of thousands of dollars of college funds (general funds) are being spent to run the foundation that provides little or no benefit to the campus.
Looks like Morley scored some big points last Friday morning at the High School Principal's Breakfast. See the President's Update. BTW, notice Crean was there!
