18. And on that note, we're genocide-denying central, from the Institute for Historical Review (the largest Holocaust-denying publishing house in the world) to a community college district who employed a Holocaust denier to Kevin MacDonald, the Long Beach St. professor whose writings are the intellectual framework for modern-day anti-Semitism to the anti-Armenian genocide ravings of Ergun Kirlikovali and his bands of outraged Ottomans.

We're #1
Golly, the SOCCCD gets a dishonorable mention in Gustavo Arellano’s 50 Reasons Why Orange County is The Worst Effing Place in America (OC Weekly). We come up in reason #18:

Yeah, that d***** diversity of opinion really makes OC a bad place to live, doesn't it? If we could just get everyone to agree with Roy on every issue, since he knows best about everything, it would sure be a lot better place.
Holocaust deniers among us = "Diversity of opinion"?
Amazing.
Oh I love it when the argument regarding Holocaust deniers becomes "diversity of opinion" - that's when you know you're in orange County.
Reminds me of the time my sister explained to me that a family member's embrace of the Confederacy and ALL it stood for was a "lifestyle choice."
Uh, no. It's racism.
Apparently "diversity of opinion" is equivalent to "being a fucking idiot."
Freedom is a wonderful thing, Roy, even for an idiot that expresses denial of the Holocaust.
I reckon it wise for you to thank whatever or whomever you consider a higher power in your life because it is freedom of thought and expression that enables you to do what you do in this magnificent blog.
Diversity of opinion, yes. Intolerance, no. Practice what you preach, Roy!

Who the fuck cares what Gustavo Arellano thinks?
Those, such as Gustavo and I, who ridicule Holocaust denial are not ipso facto intolerant of Holocaust deniers. That one has a right to opinion X does not entail having a right to having one's opinion respected by others. It entails permitting the expression of that opinion.
I did not delete 12:22's ridiculous remark; I ridiculed it.
See?
In a minimally rationally healthy community, some positions will be regarded as beyond the pale (of reasonableness): the Flat Earth, Holocaust Denial, etc. That does not mean that efforts will be made to prevent the expression of those positions. Such efforts are wrongful and ill-adivsed, IMO.
In such a community, people will foster and insist upon standards of reasonableness (evidence, etc.). In so doing, they will, again, opine that some positions are beyond the pale (and they will refrain from preventing expression of the opinion). That is a good thing, not a bad thing, relative to fostering valuable discourse.
Valuing "diversity of opinion" does not entail valuing all opinions. One who supposes that all opinions are of equal value is a rational nihilist; a skeptic; a Sophist in the worst sense.
Right on Sir Roy. We are tolerant of intolerant thinking (but is it thinking? Hum.).
I will no longer tolerate any of this BS!
Touchy, touchy. You take yourself entirely too seriously: usually a sign of a crackup coming.
Take care. Urgent care.
