THE TRIUMPHANT vision above is former IVC student Lauren Winder on the steps of Sproul Hall at UC Berkeley.
Lauren is an active participant in the Occupy Cal movement and has given Rebel Girl permission to share her experiences.
Here's Lauren's report of yesterday's activities:
"Today was historic and amazing: we successfully set up an encampment on Sproul, had the Mario Savio memorial speakers including Professor Robert Reich address us with overwhelming emotion, I got to march with my idols in the English Department, & the whole thing concluded with us dancing to Michael Jackson on the steps of Sproul in front of news cameras. And, yes, I made a sign with a line taken from Shelley's 'Prometheus Unbound.' Maybe the best day of my life."
Did Rebel Girl mention that Lauren is an English major? Yeah. Yeah.
Here's an extended excerpt of the passage from Percy Bysshe Shelley's play "Prometheus Unbound" that Lauren quotes on her sign. They are the play's final lines:
"To suffer woes which Hope thinks infinite;
To forgive wrongs darker than death or night;
To defy Power, which seems omnipotent;
To love, and bear; to hope till Hope creates
From its own wreck the thing it contemplates;
Neither to change, nor falter, nor repent;
This, like thy glory, Titan, is to be
Good, great and joyous, beautiful and free;
This is alone Life, Joy, Empire, and Victory."
Go Bears!

Go English Majors!
Thanks for the fantastic Shelley stanza. Just re-posted it for a friend. Hope you don't mind that I steal your quips. This one was just too perfect.
I like this but want to know which Michael Jackson song they danced to...please find out.
Thanks for sharing this.
