UC grad students approve new contract (SacBee)
Graduate students who work at the University of California have voted to approve a new contract with the university, ending nearly six months of negotiations.

The contract gives graduate student workers a minimum 2 percent annual salary increase for each of the next three years, with additional annual salary increases of up to 2 percent if the California state budget improves; more generous health care coverage; a three-fold increase in UC's contribution toward child care; tuition remission for workers who are California residents and partial tuition remission for those who are not….
Wayne State U. Cancels Diversity Award Named for Reporter (Chronicle of Higher Education)
Wayne State University will no longer offer the Helen Thomas Spirit of Diversity in Media Award because of recent comments made by the journalist, the Detroit Free Press reports.
Thomas, a Wayne State alumna, said during a speech in Dearborn that “Congress, the White House and Hollywood, Wall Street are owned by the Zionists. No question. They put their money where their mouth is.”
Thomas resigned in June as a Hearst Newspaper columnist over comments she made calling on Israelis to get “out of Palestine.”....
