Evidently, he was invited to do the video based on writing he did for his blog a while back. Powerful stuff.
According to Newsweek editor Sarah Frank,
Davis, a literary journalism student at the University of California-Irvine, and a former U.S. Army sergeant, completed two deployments to Iraq with the 101st Airborne, from 2003-2006. He runs the blog, 13 stoploss, where he writes about his "transition from pawn to citizen." He adapted this essay, from a larger blog post entitled, "Nightmares and PTSD."We're very proud of the multi-talented Jason, a former student of mine (and of many at IVC). Congrats!
And good luck on your sleep, dude.

Impressive.
(Doesn't Jason comment on this blog now and again?)
Yes, Jason does write to this blog when he finds the time. He keeps pretty busy, what with classes, a family, and his photography.
I'm working on a PTSD narrative right now, and am studying under Pulitzer winning journalist, Barry Siegel. This "nightmare" is adapted from a (terrible) blog post I wrote a year or more ago.I'll have it online sometime in December when the quarter ends.
Also, on Wednesday December 1st, sometime around dinner, I'll be reading a portion of another narrative that was selected from UCI Literary Journalism's magazine Kiosk.
Photography is going well--I'm on staff at the New University and have done profiles of Erwin, a Nobel Peace Prize finalist, and a Dr. of Cosmology who appeared in National Geographic, in addition to the usual protests and general university silliness.
I often check out the headlines here at DtB, but find the time to get deep into it...
Hope all is well!
After my return from Vietnam, it took me ten years to learn how to sleep again. Over there we never really slept, we just rested our eyes. Today, my wife says I fall asleep after two deep breaths. Hopefully, Jason will learn to sleep again too.
