.....Evidently, it's "Christmas" in Irvine Valley College's shiny and empty new Performing Arts Center. The Center's lobby sports exactly one object: a lovely Christmas tree.
..... Some college denizens have noted, grumpily, that not all Irvinites celebrate Christmas.
..... Did you know that nearly 30% of Irvinites are Asians and Pacific Islanders (so says the City of Irvine)? (I know, I know. Some of 'em are Christians.)
..... Did you know that the "city vegetable" of Irvine is asparagus? They oughta at least mount a big asparagus stalk next to that tree. That's if you ask me.
.....It's mighty wet and dreary out here in the Santa Ana Mountains.
..... Today, canyon residents (Modjeska, Silverado, Trabuco, etc.) received a special phone message from the Orange County Fire Authority: mandatory evacuations are lifted—for now. The message mentions the storm expected Saturday night. What then? Who knows.
.....OK, it's dreary. But it's beautiful, too.
........ I couldn't resist:

I love your holiday card, Chunk. Happy freakin' holidays to you, too! Who knew that Irvine had a city vegetable? That knowledge might just lift me out of depression for a few minutes here--and I am very grateful to you for that.
Asparagus is tasty, and it's a diuretic, too.
Leave it to Irvine to choose a city vegetable. Why stop there? They oughta pick a city "time o' the day" too. I say 9:05. It's perfect.
Do other cities have an official vegetable? And why asparagus? There used to be many tomato fields at one time. Now it's all houses and concrete.
Happy Freakin' Holidays!
The SOCCCD bulldozed over Irvine's asparagus fields to build our stupid college.
Actually, in the early 70s there used to be multitudinous asparagus fields, near the spot where the 5 and Jeffrey meet today and over on Sand Canyon about where the Verizon headquarters reside--and thousands of avocado trees on upper Sand Canyon--and orange trees at Irvine Center and Jeffrey, where IVC now stands. I guess Irvine selected its vegetable based on what used to be rather than what IS. Though SOCCCD designs all its icons on what never will be (ATEP, the Saddleback BGS).
That "holiday" card? What is wrong with you?
What? You don't like it? Can't please some people, I guess.
