I live in Orange County. How do I not know about these beautiful places? Your photos have inspired me to seek out some tranquility, nature and peaceful moments right here in the "OC" in 2008. Thanks for labeling the locations.

These shots benefited from "golden hour." But there are lots of beautiful places in OC.
Drive up Trabuco Canyon. Check out the falls above Holy Jim Canyon. If you're ambitious, hike from there up to Santiago Peak. Most people have no idea what beauty exists in this county.
Just beautiful!

Thanks! Your suggestion is on my list. :)
If you drive slowly, you should have no difficulty driving up Trabuco Canyon (which is a dirt road just past Trabuco Oaks "general store" and Rose Canyon). No special vehicle is normally required.
The road goes for about six miles; then there's a fork just past the Holy Jim fire station (volunteer). At the fork (there's a wide spot), go to the left. After about a mile, you'll come to the end of the road. From there, the hike to Holy Jim falls is about a mile, and it's easy (mostly because it's only a mile). I wouldn't attempt the further hike unless I started early in the morning. Take a camera. Go on a clear day. It's just spectacular. It always strikes me as absurd that so wonderful a thing is so close to urban OC. Plus the history of the area is quite wonderful. Check it out. -CW
Wonderful photos, Chunk. You have inspired me both to go these beautiful places, AND to photograph, photograph, photograph. Thanks for that.
