This morning, I checked out the “events” page of the Republican Party of Orange County website. It’s pretty amusing.
Some guy named “Larry Dick” is all over the page. Evidently, he’s for real.
Over at the Balboa Bay Club, some jackass will be speaking on "The American Way—Defeating Liberalism at Home and Jihad Abroad." —I’m not making this up!
Mike Huckabee and Fred Thompson are coming to town soon. Isn’t Huckabee the one who thinks that Earth is 6000 years old? Maybe he can come to Saddleback College and do a forum on geology.
But my favorite “events” announcement is Jenna Bush’s book signing at Irvine’s Whale of a Tale Children’s Bookshoppe on the 30th. Tickets are “required” but are free—with the purchase of her book: Ana’s Story: A Journey of Hope.
Books “must be purchased in advance,” we’re told. Then there’s this:
• Jenna Bush will speak and sign books. She will not take questions
• She will sign up to 3 copies, but will not personalize or sign other items
• Photography is fine, but no posing
• There will be security screening
• No large bags or Backpacks
• No strollers
• No packages
• No signs
• No banners
I was hoping to drop by, but, as you can see, the situation is hopeless.

I feel sorry for Republicans, I really do. All that bone in their heads, keeps them from thinking straight! Don't they realize that "defeating Liberalism" is un-American (i.e., oppressive and unfree)? And that "defeating Jihad" (which does not mean what they think it does) only invites more terrorism?
That's not really Jenna in the picture, is it? Looks like a frat party.
But what's going on at IVC?
She's just folowing in the footsteps of her distinguished, literary father.
Larry Dick, Dick Jones, Dick Cheney, Dick Nixon...Republicans sure are a lot of Dicks!
I notice that website syas we're "America's most Republican County." Sort of like saying we're America's biggest turd.
It was emphasized in the article I read that Jenna had written the book herself. No ghostwriters.
The article then gave an excerpt. With a grasp of sentence structure like that, she could well have written the book herself.
4:45 crossed the line. Used the "c" word.
it won't do.
Gee, Chunk. Why so politically correct? It's just an acronym for, "Cannot Understand Normal Thinking."
Is Jenna wearing underwear?
Motorcycle ride mon cherie? Meet ya behind the SSC.

"It was emphasized in the article I read . . . ."
"The article then gave an excerpt."
And YOU'RE criticizing someone's sentence structure?
The passive voice is perfectly acceptable. Syntactically, there's nothing wrong with it. As for style, that's a judgment call.
"The article I read emphasized" would probably have been better stylistically.
Sure, passive voice sentences are not ungrammatical. But it was pretty clunky, no?
You caught me at a crabby moment. I was being a jerk. Sorry.
