Forde's Theatre: Overpriced PR Consultant Confesses Great Park Plan Was A Dream
(NavelGazing)
Having collected $7.23 million to do public relations for a government park that may never be fully built because of wasted spending, Newport Beach consultant Arnold Forde made clear at the outset of an Aug. 5 deposition that he is contemptuous of questions about his windfall.
The recipient of no-bid contracts for a decade because of his personal ties to Irvine political boss Larry Agran, Forde advised Anthony R. Taylor, the attorney investigating corruption at the Orange County Great Park project in Irvine at the behest of the City Council, that he's the target of "a witch hunt."....

LAUSD police to give up some weaponry obtained in federal program

excerpt:

"Military-grade weapons have no place on our public school campuses," Fowler [deputy director of Texas Appleseed, a social justice nonprofit] said. "We're simply calling for a return to common sense when it comes to the way our schools are kept safe," she said.

L.A. Unified says that the M-16 automatic rifles, which were modified to semiautomatic since they were acquired in 2001, are "essential life-saving items" and will continue to be available to trained officers. The armored vehicle will be used only under extraordinary circumstances, officials said.

Tonight in Silverado

The view from Hazel Bell. That's a 737 dropping flame retardant. Or a D-10. Whatever it is, it's big.

IVC coppers procure 15 self-protection clubs. For what? Against whom?

We've been noting the curious items (see list) that colleges across the country have procured from the military in recent years, including an armored vehicle that protects against IEDs and mines. —That's what our sister college (campus police) snagged, and boy are they proud.
That's ridiculous. It's so ridiculous that many may have failed to notice that IVC's police did some procuring of their own. The IVC coppers snagged, among other things, 15 self-protection clubs.
Huh? Just who do they need protection from? Students?
And why 15? Are they expecting high concentrations of wacked-out, violent studentry? Do they know something that we don't?
