When I got to the Liberal Arts Building, I encountered several colleagues and friends who complained about President Roquemore’s then-occurring “Breakfast” and “Welcome,” held at the Performing Arts Center. It featured, they said, an inexplicable presentation by an Automobile Club executive about “texting and driving.”
Don’t do it, he said, I guess.
Members of the audience were perplexed and annoyed. The situation was sufficiently absurd that some people just walked out.
“WTF?” they told me.
I was also told that the session was very poorly attended. The story is that Roquemore had moved the session to Thursday precisely because he was sick and tired of low turnouts on Monday.
But today’s turnout was especially bad. He even commented on it.
A sour note.
Evidently the fellow is unaware that he is a distinctly unpopular president. He is not respected, and he is not liked.
Nevertheless, the clueless fellow has been the chief exec at IVC for 16 miserable years.
—Oh. He also showed some baby pics. Sans music.
Whatever.
That was followed by the usual SOCCCD Faculty Association Meeting and Luncheon, where the head of the union’s contract negotiating team laid out the facts about summer’s negotiations.
With the Chancellor and some of the Board present, Comrade Long laid it all out. It was devastating. Or so I'm told.
The Board is seriously low-balling the faculty, both full-time and part-time. It's as plain as day.

TEN YEARS AGO:
For this occasion, Raghu arranged for some sort of direct involvement in the entertainment—and it somehow went seriously haywire. Never found out the how or why (Trustee Fuentes alludes to some kind of snafu). And so we all—i.e., OC Elvis, Tom, and the audience—waited while the Vegas-era Elvis music played. But Raghu the Entertainer failed to emerge. Finally, Raghu broke through the drapes and.....
What did he think he was doing? No-one knows, as near as I can tell. Perhaps the idea was that there can be no greater pleasure, no more elevating experience, than beholding the Great Man, Raghu, lip-sincing Elvis.
What an asshole.
One time Raghu showed up as Johnny Carson's "Carnac" character. Sheesh. I'll try to dig that up.

Today's event with the Tripe A guy was a big waste of time. Was he paid to make his pitch? Doe anyone know? Texting is the big issue facing us this year. OMG, as the kids say.

It felt like a sales pitch cloaked in an unnecessary public service announcement. What kind of stipend did he get? Is he a pal of Glenn's from the local business council on which he was recently re-installed?
May be the fall out from his wife's transfer to Saddleback.
Glenn complained there weren't a lot of people there then he introduced his friend from Triple A who told us we shouldn't text and drive.
er, I think that's why fewer people show up to his welcomes. We have better things to do that are more relevant to serving our students. And why all the emails about the ice cream truck?

Shaved ice is nice but most part-time faculty would prefer a raise high than the 0 percent offered by the district.
Personally, I didn't find the new Chancellor's presentation particularly inspiring. She spoke about some of the issues facing the California community colleges, the impact on the district and college budgets, and her family (she obviously likes to travel, judging from the slide presentation she shared with those in attendance). And yes, she compared students to sea shells (every one is unique). Cute but not really thought provoking. I do hope she does well. We certainly do not need any more turmoil. There's been plenty of that at the district and Saddleback already with so many personnel changes. I am cautiously hopeful ...hope not to be disappointed.
The new chancellor seemed cautious and, of course, had to occupy that awkward position between the state and us - but I too am cautiously optimistic. I appreciated that she decided to introduce herself as a person which already distinguishes her from what we have had for so long. I like the fact she taught for 20 years. She seems smart and to value higher education. We'll see. Remember - she isn't Raghu... or Glen.

I think the new chancellor seems smart, funny, and relatable. Her presentation was charming. She’s experienced and savvy. Certain (male) trustees must feel very threatened by her (not Lang and Wright).

That, and how horrified everyone was over his treatment of the president during commencement. He is a small person.
I don't know. I thought it was fine Tim took the college president to task for quoting Disney crap. I sort of enjoyed it. by the way, WHAT HAPPENED to the former college president anyway?

Has anyone been able to print a temp parking pass after forking over 60 bucks? I hate this new system. They take your money, promise delivery in a couple weeks and then you can't download temp pass.

It's interesting he went to Mt.SAC to be interim VPI in July.
Wow. perhaps if anyone ever told the full truth about anything things would get better. but they don't. They just cash their checks and turn away.
