If our students could be informed about the nature of his "ministry," that might help them disengage. Perhaps fliers could be made and at the ready for the next time he shows up?
And yes, if we had a campus where there were more events rather than less, this guy wouldn't draw so many. Our students are hungry and this is what they get fed with. We could do better.
And you will be doing, well, what exactly 7:01? It's tiring to hear so much opinion and see so little action among the complainers and whiners. How about advising a club of students majoring in your discipline? Sponsoring a speaker for the DALS? Hosting a lecture on this exact topic in conjunction with ASIVC or your own faculty senate? Pledging to open your next class meeting with a short dialog?
I, like many concerned faculty, have opened my class meeting with words about these recent on-cam[us events. DALS is not really a viable venue for such responses - it takes MONTHS to arrange approval for such an activity - who are you kidding? Who is your audience there? students looking for extra credit? Jeesh. Hosting a lecture???? The senate? Ha. OMG. This is not about US, people. In thr end, there are more students than there are us and this is THEIR school. The admin has quashed any efforts to revive any kind of student paper which would be the best way of communicating with and allowing students to voice their own opinions - which only stifles our response to this current crisis all the more. Those in the know can talk to each other in meetings or in the halls or on this blog but the majority of people are left out. There is where the real danger is. Don't kid yourself. Emails and press releases don't take the place of a student-run college press which allows students to communicate and respond. The chickens will come home to roost on this one.
DALS? Really? Come on.
He just made his Instagram account private. You have to follow him to see it.I suggest NOT following him.
6:01---thanks Diane.
Many of us at CPP appreciate free speech. Now, some of you may not agree with what this preacher has to say, but he does have a right to say it. This group (or someone like them) was back at campus today, and since I was on my way to a midterm, I just ignored them. Do we want Bronco Nation to get the attention of a Huffington Post for being a bunch of whiners who are so insecure in their beliefs, feel microagressed against, that they demand a "safe space" to protect them from opposing points of view? I would prefer a climate of academic freedom and liberty of thought. The purpose of political correctness is to ensure that everyone has their mind so thoroughly under the control of the ruling elite that they don't dare even think something contrary. Right now the determiners of what is PC lean toward the left. If the power one day switched to the right, would those on the left be championing intellectual tyranny?
