That post attracted many comments, including this one from someone who identified him/herself as an IVC student:
IVC studentI’ve looked into this and I have essentially verified the student’s account. More later.

What’s even [worse] is that today all the students who applied (including me) got an email saying that they got a scholarship and an hour later another email came through and it said there has been a mistake, you will be notified later [if] you actually won. What a great college I go to........ they can’t even get their emails sent out to the right people
P.S.: haven't learned much. Evidently, the "disregard earlier email" message was sent soon after the original message. I'm told that "they" (Darryl Cox and Co?) were testing the system when the error occurred.

It was a mistake - but then it was not handled well. Someone should have looked at that "please disregard" notice that was sent out to students. It could have been written better.
At least this was an honest mistake that was corrected immediately. Nothing subversive or malicious here. Unlike scholarships that don't exist or get funded.
I'm an instructor at the college. Colleagues report what I have experienced as well: plainly deserving students that we have recommended not getting scholarships. No wonder faith in the scholarship program is at a low ebb. Most of the people at the top at IVC aren't worth spit. And we're losing the one administrator that people can work with.
I too am a bit flummoxed at the results of this year's scholarship awards. Yes, plainly deserving students (in terms of merit and financial need) overlooked. And then, many, many students getting many, many scholarships. It used to be that there was a limit of how much $$$ one student could be awarded - this allowed more students to receive something. (This is aside from the relatively low number of applicants - 300 out of 15,000.)
I agree with 4:18. It seems they should more evenly distribute the scholarships so that more students receive at least one. I know several students who received four awards while some of my other students received none. They should have one person assigned to review all of the awards after they have been decided by reviewers and then go back and make sure they are evenly distributed, giving to some students who received none.
They used to do that, 10:19, in order to avoid oversight. I know a student - an Iraqi refugee, a mother of two, with a 3.8 GPA and great (obviously) financial need, who has studied here for almost two years, who applied (I encouraged her) and received nothing. Nothing.
I believe this issue was brought up in LAST YEAR'S TASK FORCE, but NOTHING was done. Nothing was done because no one really care enough to make sure that real change and reform happens. No leadership on this. Zip.
There was a task force last year? Who served on it? what happened?
Sometimes working at IVC is like working inside a very short tape loop. Or in a machine where someone keeps hitting reset. It's an institution afflicted with short term memory loss. YES there WAS a TASK force LAST YEAR. No doubt there will be another one this year. No doubt next year at the this time we will have this same conversation. Deja vu baby, deja vu.
We keep making the same mistakes over and over, somehow thinking there will be a different outcome.
